After some pondering and reading up on what various folks are doing regarding the new Russian language TOS at LJ, I've decided to go ahead and pull the rest of the way out of it, DWth is already my main bloggy home, my blog is already backed up here and the crossposting to LJ was fun but is not really necessary.

As expressed well elsewhere, I feel I should be more sad about that than I am.  End of an era, farewell LiveJournal.

We have a new DWth community set up for our Ringers at Fellowship of Middle-earth, it's [community profile] lotrfellowship - all are welcome to come join in. At this point it's brand new and therefore pretty empty, but I'm sure that will right itself in due time. It's a moderated community, so you will need to "join" and I'll get you approved as soon as I can. I've sent invites to the few old-school folks I know are here already on DWth, if you're out there and I just don't know your handle over here, please do let me know.

The appearance, color, etc. will still be tweaked a little but a little remodeling doesn't mean we can't go ahead and move in. ^_^ Many thanks to Tinidril for helping out with this!

Our longtime online community, the Fellowship of Middle-earth, has become enough outdated that we are now looking for a new home, so I will be working on a DWth community over this next month to make them an appropriate nesting spot.  It's a small group of stalwart posters at this point but we've been together so long that we'd really miss on another if it were to simply float off into the ether.  Good people, worth a bit of time to make them a comfy home to stop in at.
^_^

I do wish we could easily insert emoticons into the text here, that's the one feature I think we're going to be missing.  On the other hand, we gain tagging.

Where the heck did 2013 go?  It kind of rated somewhere down under the donkey-glop and other compostable nouns as years go, so I can't say I'll miss it much but at the same time part of me is still mildly surprised that I'm living so far in the future from my childhood that it is going to be blinkin' 2014 and I'm not only alive, I'm surprisingly functional.  As the wags like to say "Where's my flying car?" - why aren't we all living off nothing but little blue vitamin cubes or at least getting to clear the dinner table by pushing a button to smash all the recyclable dishes like Jane Jetson got to?

One mild goal for the new year is to start communicating with people who don't happen to live in my own house a little better, i.e. occasionally posting something online that is more than a heart at Tumblr.  Somehow I drifted away - I can't even say why, but my online time was smaller and so it became 'deal w Etsy shop, deal w email, check weather, check news' and if I had a few minutes to play, I tumbld.  Tumblr has the distinct advantage of being quick ('click heart. Done.') and easy to do with almost no meaningful connection or conversation with anyone else.  This can be good for brainless stress-release time and is an improvement over spending an hour clicking a rock on Runescape but still... somehow I've allowed myself to become too isolated.  Peaceful, but isolated.

So here I am.  I hope everyone is well, I fear I am far, far out of date on the daily lives of many dear people.  I'll pick up here and there, at least that's the intent.

*mwah*
Happy New Year.

For any who may have Who among their interests, [personal profile] evilawyer is hosting a basic Doctor Who friending meme over at [community profile] gallifrey_times - always a good chance to find a few folks who share a love for the Whoniverse.

Come on, don't let me be the only one!
primsong: (old school)
My folks are visiting us for Christmas and as a part of her being here I managed to get my mom to set up a DWth account, as [personal profile] tulipsandquilts - a process that really opened my eyes to how complicated some of what I do all the time really is!

I've grown so accustomed to working with this particular bloggy-thing, whether in its LJ or DWth incarnation, that taking her step by step through things like the fact the blog needs a 'name' and what an icon is, how you add people and how you configure things and...and...yikes. No wonder non-computery people are sometimes intimidated by it.

When you think about it, this is really quite the futuristic, advanced life-form kind of thing to be doing. All that we need are some nice holodecks and photon torpedos and jet-packs now. Or at least one of those buttons like Mrs. Jetson had that smashed everything on the dinner table and swept it all into a hole - I want futuristic housecleaning to go with my futuristic communications now.

Just a note to all the LJ folks who for reasons I cannot comprehend haven't backed up their journals to Dreamwidth yet - this week Dwth is having an open house of sorts where you don't need an invite code to set up a journal there. Go! Do! I don't think you'll regret it. Really.

I have a huge bowl of pfeffernusse dough in my fridge to bake, then I'm hauling out the bread machine to assemble amaretto bread wreaths for the neighbors in lieu of plates of cookies this year - May your day likewise be fragrant and peaceful with regular incidents of tastiness.

I've spent far too many hours on these this week, but here they are, shiny and ready for all the DW fans on DW. ;-) Feel free to use - more fabulous sheep may be found at the [community profile] dreamsheep community.

Thank you to shanaqui for putting this together - let's spread the love for this friendly place.

What's so great about this place? )

I like it here.

Just thinking how fb does something strange to the brain. One of my kids was upset the other day because she was trying to contact her friend for a question about homework but "she hasn't shown up on facebook!! I don't know what to do!"...
"Have you tried CALLING her?"
*sheepish* "Oh...uh, no."

I've been gradually deleting and removing stuff from my fb over this week - can't seem to make myself just shut the darn thing off all at once so it's more like fading out, but as I get down to a tiny handful it's feeling - freeing. Nice. Peaceful. Ahhh.

Anyone who would like to ferret out a few folks within our common fandom may want to come on over to the The Doctor Who Friending Meme that's been recently posted at the 'doctor who' community at Dreamwidth.

The purpose is twofold - first to find and friend other likeminded fans, and secondly to see what communities and interests may be worth pursuing with new communities at DW, should any like to pick up the admin duties of the area their fannish passions direct them towards. I realize we still have a lot of folks who are still sorting out their icons, muddling over their new look and relinking their links but it's never too early to lay out the welcome mats to gather up some good reading, fanart and fannish discussions.

I did it, I went for a paid account at DW, and I'm so haaaappy! I am having a spaz of icon love for getting to finally have more than 15 of them, though I severely fail at icon etiquette at the moment because I fell into the lazy habit of snagging anything that caught my fancy or amused me for a while and neglected to note who made them. SO - here be my disclaimer...if you think you made something I have and would like credit, just send me a pm and I'll be happy to add that info, or if you take offense at my even having it for reasons of your own, I'll replace it with something else, no prob.

Celebrated by making a small number myself, stayed up too late doing it, like I'll ever learn not to stay up too late. That's what caffeine is for, right? Consider the retro fifties slogan - COFFEE! Because you can sleep when you're dead. Which is ironic because all I've had is tea, but hey... Now I want to work on a custom mood set.

I'm switching some of my communities where I find good replacements (turned off LJ's 'gardening' and turned on DW's version of same, for instance) but still keeping most of the home-fire burning over there for now.

I just love it when I find funkier than usual goodies for my vintage Etsy shop - this time it's an antique wind-up tin toy of a cat that is knitting - it's little needles go up and down and it has a wee ball of yarn in its lap. I don't usually go for stuff that's purely decorative, but it's darn adorable. That one gets cleaned up for sale, but the other two things are MINE all mine, bwa hahaahaa... I found the coolest space-age looking lime green lamp with a built in fruit bowl and a funky-monkey (as my son dubbed it) old decorative yellow and brown narrow wooden chair that totally gets to live in my house. This makes up for all the reams of old mugs, dusty tupperware and cheap resin trinkets from China that I have to wade past to get to them when I go our treasure hunting.

Also, on the Dreamwidth block party of LJ-refugees topic - I found a nice "starter kit" of links over here for anyone else who is just finding their way around:

Hello to my new friendly people - welcome! *waves*
primsong: (flower)
This is an experimental first post from my new Dreamwidth "primsong" account, to see how (or if) that crossposting thing works - please excuse any bumbling while I figure it out.

Conquered my reams of apples, froze the last of the blueberries and just put nearly the last of the pears into a big pan of ginger-pear crumble. The plums are next! They're ripening nicely - but the darn squirrels keep eating them before they're quite ripe enough for us human beings. They better leave some for me, grumble.

We've nearly finished repairing the rotten roof on our shed and re-shingling, but yikes the nails just flew everywhere when the old stuff was shoveled and scraped off. I need to go find one of those magnet-on-a-stick things and play treasure hunter with nails in the grass for a while, I like padding around barefoot in the summer too much.

Hope everyone is getting at least a few of their summer projects tidied up before the weather changes again, I only got maybe half of them done but at least it was something. What did you paint, re-do, plant, tear down, fix, upgrade or otherwise accomplish this summer past?
