Pi-cat climbed into my lap while I was typing and demanded a pet, but every time I tried to scrub the permanently-in-need-of-petting spots on her head, her head would whip from side to side. What?

Finally realized the sun was reflecting off my watch so if I pet her head a bright DOT of light appeared on the wall and moved around enticingly only to disappear again when I pulled my hand back *because* her head was following the DOT so closely.

Cat-brain = fascination with DOTS OF LIIIIIGHT.

Always.

Oh, and the cursor moving around on the screen, of course, which makes me occasionally wish I had a transparent cat so I wouldn't be rubbernecking all around a cat's legs and tail like a ground-squirrel on drugs just to see where to click.

I nearly completely missed the whole 'talk like a pirate' thing this year, but thankfully had a fine and amusing time playing around with the Pirate Translator - you can plug the url for any page in and it will translate it into "pirate" - try some of your short stories, especially if they have some good dialogue. Ha!

There was a big pirate festival in Portland, maybe I'll manage to make it over there one of these years. Did any of you have any piratical moments go by this weekend?

Pulled open the blinds in the dining room this morning and the first thing I saw was a flailing flying squirrel. Literally spread-eagled in mid-air with all four little paws waving around like a cartoon character.

Seems the movement at the window startled it right off the roof of the little squirrel bird-feeder it was looting for sunflower-seeds. X-D He landed and tried to regain what dignity he could by pretending that hadn't happened. *snert snert*

Today is the day - we have a scene from a movie called "Untraceable" being shot at my next-door neighbor's house. She left to stay with a friend a few days back and the movie guys have been there ever since, taking out her furniture, building a set in her living room and garage and changing the front of her house. They put bars over the front windows and made a false wall on part of the front to protect her siding - took off her front door and built a fake one to break in, and next they cover up her daffodils and bring in fake snow. Her garage is filled with movie stuff and computers and screens.

We have huge lights covered in plastic sitting around the edge of our yard, fat cables running along our fence and a port-a-potty in the arborvitae, another at the end of our driveway. A big white tent has been erected in my other neighbor's yard, and a boom with lights is being brought in to shine over the hedge towards the scene, etc.

I've had to move our cars to the cul-de-sac next door - thankfully we have a side gate that lets us get there. Our driveway will be blocked until the wee hours of this next morning and their trucks, vans and semis (two of them on our little street look exceptionally huge) are taking up all the parking on the main road. Pretty wild, feels like a circus is invading.

We've been watching the security guys wandering around in a bored fashion over the last three days - it is odd to walk down my driveway to fetch my garbage can and have men with badges on their shoulders popping around the corner of the house to shine a flashlight on me.

There's rainclouds coming in now - my guess is by the time they go to shoot, their "snow" is going to look like mashed potatoes all over the yard. We'll see!

It is odd to look out your window and suddenly see a surge of men coming down your driveway, as if a busload of protesters are coming to picket what type of tea I serve in the morning. Just as we were about to truly go "Whaaaaa...?" the entire surge of them turned and went into our neighbors yard instead of ours (there are only the two of us on the long drive). Turns out they are the Movie People - a while back, her house was scouted out for a film location and we'd almost forgotten about it. Now we watched bemused as hordes of Movie People scurried around her house like rats, climbing around her deck and garden, peering at the trees, standing in clumps in the yard waving their arms in animated fashion as they talked, measured things with their measuring wheel.

The elderly man next door came out and hung about his deck, looking stern and concerned, so I went to tell him what it was. "Oh, is that it? I just saw all these strange young men in her yard and thought I ought to come out and keep an eye on 'em." (Would have loved to see him go after them young whippersnappers).

Wonder what day they'll come do the real filming? I want to rubberneck and lollygag around to watch.
