I spent yesterday evening helping with a 'family picnic' at the school (tons of people running around on the playground and a number of pinatas being swatted from the monkeybars... fun chaos. I remember 10 years ago when it was about 20 people sitting on the lawn together - now we have 50 just on the official staff alone, and hundreds of students and their families. Wow. Just wish we had a bigger building so we could add a high school - we're all dreaming on that one now.

Our first round of kids who went clear through to 8th grade and now are starting at public high schools were there, many of them because they have younger siblings still at our school. They all reported being horrified at the behaviour, maturity level and lack of self-discipline their classmates displayed. They also found they all tested clear beyond the 12th grade level in grammar and writing skills, into upper grades in science, etc. and the schools literally don't know what to do with them. Now they're talking maybe jumping to college as soon as they turn 16. I'm getting two tutors for my eldest, in advanced biology and Latin/languages because she begged me to. Her homework this weekend from the high school? Color a map of the US to show which states you have lived in or visited. And use color pencils. Gah!

This morning I'm loading up my car with garden implements and folding tables, etc. for a memorial we are holding at the Elanor garden in Beaverton - we lost both of a couple who had been an important part of our garden there to cancer a short time ago, and we're planting a snowbell tree in their memory. We've a weather system that just blew in so we might end up wet and windy! I'm taking my jumbo umbrella to cover the potluck foods at least. None of us have ever done a memorial before, so it might be kind of crazy, especially as most memorials don't include weeding and working on a deck.

Good to hear updates from Orangeblossom Took - Elfriend and I are still gathering, but not for much longer as we would like to get what we have into her hands. If you would like to join in, please use the button on the front page of the Scrapbook site for paypal http://lotrscrapbook.com
Or email/pm me for a mailing address for checks. ((((OBT)))))
