Merry Christmas (((flist)))

I'm so glad to see the holidays seem to be going mostly-pretty-much well for the folks who have popped in to LJ, may you all have a bit of something that warms your heart this day.

We had a sleepy-slow morning, laying out the pretty tablecloths, baking a pecan coffeecake and omelets, eggnog and tea on the side - I like to keep Christmas as simple as I can, who wants to spend a holiday in the kitchen? Everyone seemed to love the stuff in the stockings and under the tree ("This is all from the bins??" was asked unbelievingly more than once - I did all my shopping at the Goodwill distribution center this year - .89 a pound for whatever you can find... good stuff in there if you dig!)

Now it's a nice peaceful interlude where everyone is enjoying something new or nibbling at treats. Bing Crosby is crooning in the background and the Invasion of the Non-Geeky In-Laws won't happen for a couple more hours. Aaaaaaah.

What does your family have for a 'traditional Christmas morning' breakfast/brunch? We used to do waffles, but it seemed too much of a bother this time.

What a lovely day! Merry Christmas, Prim!

French Toast... easier than pancakes and don't require a special griddle... although now I'm hungry for waffles!

Oh yummers - I've done those in the past for that very reason - and you can make them look fancy with only a shake of powder sugar too!

We often do a yeast-raised waffle (dubbed "Wise Man Waffles" because of their appearance at Christmas), I just mix it up the night before and stick it in the fridge. In the morning it's all fluffed up to the top of the bowl, beat it down with a bit of melted butter and stick it in the griddle, very tasty.

And to you as well, dear one!

Quiche! Well, I don't know if it's really authentic quiche, but it has eggs and cheese and other such things, and a crust.

Merry Christmas to you, too!

Sounds like quiche to me! I love quiche, if I'd been thinking ahead that would've made a nice option as well. :-)

Well I searched for a Sara Lee coffee cake...Mom and I enjoyed those for years...but couldn't find them. So Bob had some donuts but I ended up feeling a little ill this morning so just had saltines ;o We had considered waffles but weren't sure we had enough time cause we had to be at a brunch at noon.

No fun to be down to saltines at Christmas - hope you're feeling better now, and your brunch turned out nicely.

oh yeah, I had plenty of yummy food at the brunch at our friend's house :) Just don't know most of the people that come there. And the illness was my own fault..too much eggnog the night before ;o

Sounds like a lovely day, Prim - Happy Holidays :)

We have a couple of different 'traditional' breakfasts, depending on what mood we're in. Some years we have smoked salmon, served with scrambled egg and lots of lemon and pepper, usually accompanied by a mimosa, and other years we have croissants or pain au chocolat with freshly ground filter coffee. This year was pain au chocolat and coffee, and it was a lovely start to the day :)

Yummm! That sounds really nice. The asian market near here has a marvelous pain au chocolat with hazelnuts folded in, might be an idea to snag for a nice morning treat.

Pecan coffee cake is less trouble than waffles? I think I want to come to your house for Christmas! Clearly, your house runs on magic!

Happy Christmas!

Well, when there's several people anyway - coffeecake just gets mixed up in a bowl all at once and poured in a pan to bake, no having to juggle them in and out of the waffle iron while hungry kids impatiently wait.

My mom used to bring a tv-tray over to the table and plug in the waffle-iron there so she could sit down and eat too instead of having to be the one in the kitchen, maybe I should just do that! :-)
