Dw Love post
Sep. 18th, 2010 11:07 amThank you to shanaqui for putting this together - let's spread the love for this friendly place.
Favourite thing(s) you think everyone should know about DW: I'm finding I really like the way the personality and responsiveness of the tech/development team comes through to the rest of the site - their news posts always have something real to say and they don't dumb it down as if we can only understand things if they have a cartoon goat in them. They are very supportive and amazingly quick in responding to things in a meaningful and up-front way. If they can't do something, they will just say so, if they're working on it they'll let you know. And the people here respond to it, they help and join in as if it were a team, they volunteer and offer suggestions that are positive and helpful instead of grousing at a brick wall - the result lifts everyone's spirits. It's such a breath of fresh air.
Favourite feature(s) that is/are unique to DW:
I really like the way the subscribing and access are split, so you can follow someone's journal without them being able to read yours in return unless you want them to. The little tag-expander thing is nice too, just click on it and the hidden cut pops open. It's amazingly good at crossposting and importing, I couldn't believe how easy that part was as I was all set to be intimidated and it completely wasn't. Also fun to watch the people who are working on developing more themes for everyone, seeing what they're coming up with and their openness to having others modify those themes. And the lacks of ADS! yay!
Favourite comm(s) on DW:
I'm still finding my way around, but I love seeing the
doctor_who comm coming alive and acting as a jumping off point for those of us who want to create more fannish groups.
sixwordstories is turning out to be very interesting, I dearly love
poetry and
lj_refugees is a godsend, a wonderful menagerie of people who migrated from LJ to connect, reconnect, and find their way around and
wtf_nature for all my weird nature needs.
gardening was a wonderful find as it is exactly what I was following on LJ, so I just switched over. I'm loving
dreamsheep and am making some myself! There's even
britdrama for all things from British dramas including Spooks, which made me think of
thisbluespirit.
Comm(s) I wish would get more attention:
what_ho_chaps for Jeeves and Wooster fans looks promising if it could pull in a few more, and
homeeconomics101 which is great for overall advice giving and getting.
Favourite user(s): I can't even begin - everyone has been so amazing and friendly. I've especially enjoyed
bel and
jhumor joining me alongside some of my old guard. The Doctor Who Friending Meme on
doctor_who is especially helpful.
The kind of comms I'm looking for: It would be fun to have more Who-oriented writing comms, I'm looking into helping with a drabble one. Maybe one for the Scarlet Pimpernel or 60s-70s television shows would be fun. I believe it will be what we make it. Overall, I already am accumulating more than I can keep up with as it is!
The kind of people I'd like to befriend: Fannish writing people, gentle or observant people, poetic or optimistic and creative people, people who enjoy history and literature - journals for grousing, being offended, venting and negativity aren't what I'm looking for when I settle down with a cup to tea to read. Overall, most people are Nice and I like them.
