It's very much a basic image tag - just go to the 'help' for LJ and it's right there. Leave it open in its own window so you can refer to it as you go if you need to. :-)
As to the other issues, I may write on them a bit, but probably in private emails to a few folks rather than just tossing it out on the field for debate.
