This meme has taken me a while to do (I'm still missing a couple requests) but here are three for [livejournal.com profile] samarra

Kitchen

My kitchen - cleaner than usual...and for some reason the floor here looks kind of orange-grey, though it's sagey green. I still don't have the art glass in the upper cabinets - I'm looking for a good glue-chip for it.

Smiling rock

My smiling rock - it's sandstone with bits of shell in it, to have a naturally cheery nature. My husband found this for me on the beach on our honeymoon, over 18 years ago now... It's about the size of a ping-pong ball.

Quilt

I love so many colors, greens mostly - but this quilt my mom made for me has such lovely teals, greens and purples in it I thought it would do.

And for [livejournal.com profile] estellye -

poem

This doesn't *quite* qualify, as it isn't artistic art, but I dearly loved this one. It's a poem my son wrote in school about his mom:

My mom has hair like grass in the wind, her eyes are like the sun.
Her singing is like pure crystal, She's like a flower in ways.
At times she's like a wolf, at others she's like a lamb.
She's like a primula, she's like a cat in ways.
My mom is like a rose, she's just as beautiful.

The wolf part made me laugh - when he's in trouble, yeah!

Greenhouse

I had to think about this one for a while. Where do I go and talk to the sunshine? I realized it was in my greenhouse, where I go to listen to the rain on the glass, to talk to the plants, to pray and be thankful, surrounded by living green, especially in summer when the grapevines climb up over it.

Front door

My front door - I really splurged on a pretty one when we replaced the old wood one. It lets so much light in, and gives us rainbows at sunrise. I love it! I picked out green flagstone for the step - it used to be cheap brown linoleum. o.0

More later on...

I laughed when I read the wolf comment too. LOL!! cheeky boy (but oh so very descriptive)

Aaron did read your descriptive lines by the way (and the others too) and yesterday I finally got him to sit down and hash them out. He's really very impatient and if the idea's don't come to him all at once he thinks he can't do it. I told him that creativity doesn't just "come", you have to give it time and thought. He did and he came up with some pretty good ones. I hope to get them posted tomorrow.

What a gorgeous poem! The writing bug has bitten another family member, I see. The wolf part is classic! LOL!

I love the photo of the greenhouse. I am not sure if you have shown photos of it before or if it is just a fitting sort of Primlike place, but my first thought was, "Of course!"

Your front door is pretty and inviting, though I did half expect it to be round ;)

Well, at least I got an arch in the glass pattern... and it isn't painted yet, so it may well be green. :-)

What's a little flattery without that dollop of 'taking your own medicine' in there? ;-) Looking forward to seeing what Aaron came up with - I love the idea of an LJ for school stuff like that.

Thanks - I do too. The old kitchen was all dark wood and very icky - it really brightened up the room to have the lighter cabinets. We ladies all spend so much time in our kitchens, it's a treat to have it also be a place we enjoy.

I was just realizing that at this age, Tori was already heavily involved at the fan club boards. She might have already had a head for creative writing, but I think having a place to share it just made it more of a passion and helped her hone her skill somewhat. I'm kind of trying to find the same kind of outlet for Aaron (though he doesn't seem to be as inclined to get into it like Tori did)

That's the cool thing about homeschooling is that you can try different things and different ways to teach that fit the style of your child. Have you decided yet if you're gonna try the homeschoolng next year?

Yes indeed, it looks like that's where we're headed - it would only be for Allen, not the girls. I've been thinking of you often, as your situation is so very similar, in so may ways.
