She's in!

Today was supposed to be the final interview for my eldest, Rose, and then we were to wait until the end of the month and (anxiously) watch for a letter to tell us whether or not she made it into the Early College Program they have here... the advisor from the college called us and had to cancel it, but told us:
"Just reschedule it, and don't worry about it. We've already reserved a place for her in it, and the interview is just a formality we have to have."

Yeehaw! We're so tickled - they are willing to use a waiver to address her being technically not being old enough and they were 'very happy' with her scores on all the testing, the essay she had to write and the letters of recommendation... She doesn't have to waste any more of her life on the public high school, where she feels like her brain is going stagnant and only has her drawing classes to look forward to - she's been given wings.

The school district will be paying for her tuition and books until she gets her diploma (three years of free college!) and she'll start at the community college in September. *bounces around the room happily* Depending on the course loads, she could be very close to an Associates degree by the time she has her diploma this way, and the bus by our house goes straight to the front doors of the college. God is good!

*Is proud, is happy, is grateful*

I think I'm more excited than she is right now - I understand what this means, but for her college is a big unknown and she's still getting used to the idea. She *likes* the idea, and is vastly relieved to know for certain where she is going, but I think her *real* excitement will kick in only when she starts over there in the fall. :-) I know she's going to love it - being in classes with other students who actually want to learn instead of her classmates only being there to keep them off the streets. She's one of those who is always wanting to study things and wants to be challenged - it's perfect!

I just hope the social pressure doesn't prove too much for her. It will be a little strange to have her peers being so much older than her. I hope she's ready for that.

Happy Easter

I am very pleased for you and her Prim.

This is a result of good parenting and encouragement from you, I am sure.

That's part of the beauty of this - many of the classes will be with the others in this program, hence high school juniors and seniors who also wanted to be in it, only slightly older than herself. She 'grew up fast' in maturity and is often mistaken for being much older than she is (I remember you guys thought she was three years older than her age when we visited) :-) Thankfully, she is very practical with a good head on her shoulders in regards to the menfolk as well.

I'm terrible, aren't I? I want to shout it from the rooftops, and she probably wishes I would just let her slink in quietly. ;-) I figure it's a mother's perogative to fluff up just a wee bit now and then, when it warrants it.

Aw, thank you (((Cads))) - I don't know how much credit I can claim, she was always so bright on her own. She's one of those with a really good memory and I think it's made academics/learning in general a bit easier for her, and a lot of credit would have to go to her private school too. She is my best friend in many ways, almost more than my 'daughter', and I'm just pleased as punch to see her get this opportunity.

Happiest of Easters to you! It's nice to hear from you.

I will! You know, you came up in conversation yesterday - someone mentioned how their neighbors had odd expressions when their pastor came to visit because he and his wife rode motorcycles and she had to say "Motorcycles? Well, we know a pastor with a taco-truck!" ;-)
