Fank wu for da fowwers
Feb. 19th, 2010 04:21 pmSpring is not merely springing this year, it is CATAPULTING at warp speed into life! To that end, I spent this afternoon working on the horribly overgrown and half-dead flowerbeds at the church whacking great hunks off of shrubs, trying to get the most noxious weeds before they go to seed (yes, they're that fast) and otherwise happily grubbing clover from around the new lavenders, etc.
A preschool teacher emerged from one of the side-doors and led her little row ofducklings preschoolers down the sidewalk to line up behind me. "We have something to tell you," she said. "One, two, three -" and they all chorused "Fank wu for da fowwers!" Then one of them handed me a purple construction paper cutout. "I made this for you," she said. (I still can't tell what it's supposed to be)
They went off to the playground and I went back to yanking out great wads of peppermint roots (after politely declining an invitation to make a mud cake and getting to show off a ladybug). Not a bad afternoon at all.
