I can move my torso

I realized as my next round of classes started up this week that I've been in bellydance for over a year now, which made me realize that I can finally move my ribcage from one side to the other enough that it is visible when dancing! This sounds like a ridiculous milestone, I know, but believe me - when I was trying and trying to go side to side and it felt like my side muscles were working and half my body was flying off in one direction in a determined way and I would streeeetch and look in the mirror only to discover that it didn't even show...! Well, to have enough range of movement for it to show up is a great encouragement. ;-D

Starflower has her Irish dance starting up again this week as well, which for me means an hour that I can use for writing and editing in my trusty old notebook. All good things, I hope.

I was doing belly dancing some years ago and am - according to the instructor - a natural. I'd love to take it up again, but swimming comes first so that I can persuade my right leg to work properly again lol!

Belly dancing gives such a feeling of freedom and sensuality, doesn't it :)

One of the things I love about it is that it is so quintessentially feminine that it works even for those of us who are becoming more and more fruit-shaped at the years go on. It adds a gracefulness that aerobic-based exercises will never have.

Absolutely! When I was doing it I noticed that I was much lighter on my feet and was actually walking differently! I also felt far more sexy than I had done previous to lessons, and people noticed that my movements were more fluid.

It doesn't matter what shape or size you are; belly dancing always looks beautiful.

Ok, that term fruit-shaped combined with your icon gave me a good chuckle. And yes, I am fruit-shaped. And simple things are amusing the brain cells I have to spare lately. :D

I've given up on ever having that pre-kids figure, but I think I'll be content if I'm just not so floppy, heh.

When I first started bellydance I found out I had muscles I didn't even realize I had, lol... I watch the 'real' dancers now with amazement.
