AO3 and awaaay
Oct. 2nd, 2010 09:39 pmSpent some time copying a few of my stories from ff.net onto AO3 (still under "primsong" - keeps it simple) - Nothing like making me aware of how many stories I've put out there like moving them and having to re-tag and re-summarize and re-decide what to say in notes for each one - I made it through about two thirds of my 1-shot/vignette/single chapter bits, but I've a ways to go still and haven't tackled anything with chapters yet.
I like the layout and the various features so far, still finding my way around a bit - any of you keeping your works over there? What name are you under? What's your favorite feature there that I should know about?

Date: 2010-10-03 07:32 am (UTC)My favourite feature so far is the "import" feature; give it one's fanfiction.net URLs and 70% of the work is done for you. One still has to tweak the meta-information, because not all of that is imported, or not quite correctly, but it still saves a heap of time, especially with multi-chaptered stories. I haven't finished importing everything, I think I'm about 2/3 done.

Date: 2010-10-03 08:05 am (UTC)The layout will take a bit getting used to after dealing with FF.net for so long, but it's nice and clean and simple and there doesn't seem like a million and one hoops to go through to upload your stories, unlike FF.net. I may well just stick all my non - Who stuff on AO3 from here on out rather than FF.net while continuing to put my regular Who fic on Teaspoon.

Date: 2010-10-03 12:47 pm (UTC)I'm doing mine in order originally written. It's slow going, though, because I didn't quite tag all my LJ entries properly, so I have to go through them by hand. And of course I'm run off my feet with college/moving.
Love your mood theme - where'd you find it? (I haven't yet figured out mood themes on here, even the pre-installed ones.)

Date: 2010-10-03 02:23 pm (UTC)I wish I could remember where I found this theme now - it was one of the handful of communities for customized dreamwidth themes 'out there'...I'll have to search the interests and see if I can ferret it out.

Date: 2010-10-03 02:26 pm (UTC)Hadn't realized how used to ff.net's quirks I'd become until I didn't need to be so convoluted. I'll probably still duplicate over to ff.net simply because my sad little writer's ego is an audience-addict and more readers is worth the effort, lol...

Date: 2010-10-06 05:23 am (UTC)No objections to that. I have my writing journal under a different name, but it's still Elleth's fanfiction, so rather clearly assigned... I do agree that this feature does help your audience to find you, though, if you want a hub for your fanfics and people from various fandoms all come to the same place.
By the way, after poking around the MEFAs tonight, I found a couple of stories by a certain Primsong. You, or a coincidentally identical nickname? :)

Date: 2010-10-06 08:11 pm (UTC)I wrote quite a bit for LOTR before I wandered off in to Who, so between them it's a fair stack all told. Dear me, with everything else going on I almost forgot about the MEFAs this year, I'll have to check in over there.
