No-invite needed for Dwth

Just a note to all the LJ folks who for reasons I cannot comprehend haven't backed up their journals to Dreamwidth yet - this week Dwth is having an open house of sorts where you don't need an invite code to set up a journal there. Go! Do! I don't think you'll regret it. Really.

I have a huge bowl of pfeffernusse dough in my fridge to bake, then I'm hauling out the bread machine to assemble amaretto bread wreaths for the neighbors in lieu of plates of cookies this year - May your day likewise be fragrant and peaceful with regular incidents of tastiness.

I've been thinking of backing up my LJ here, but they keep having attacks over there that slow things down, and my LJ is huge! Did you back yours up here and did it take very long? Was it complicated?

Pfeffernusse! I want to make some this year, but I've gone and burned myself today on boiling water, so I might put off the cookie making for a bit. I think we'll have New Year's cookies instead of Christmas ones. Same varieties, but more time for me to make 'em!

No time at all involved - I remember being astonished at how lickity-split the download went when I did it. I was expecting something like when you sit and wait for a long movie to bubble through but it was pretty fast. You keep all the comments and links, the only thing that changed on mine was that it does replace the icon you used for the posts with your 'default' icon if there isn't a match in your icons at DWth - if I'd realized that ahead I would have been sure I had matching keywords on the icons here to mesh with the ones I had at LJ first, it was a 'd'oh!' moment for me so I thought I'd mention.

I've loved having all the extra icons over here - I didn't want to give LJ any money and did want to support DWth's efforts, so I finally got to have a purchased account and all the pretty pics to play with. :-)

Thanks for the info! Especially that bit about the icons -- I will have to plan ahead for that before I make the switch. I may try to do it this coming week while I'm visiting my son (who has awesomely fast internet!). I am seriously not wanting to give LJ any more money, even if it means giving up my Gondorian LJ setup. I got used to having lots of icons at LJ, though, so it looks like I'll go for the purchased account at DW to make up for that.
