My Yard is Overly Fruitful
Aug. 13th, 2012 06:52 pmOy vey. Another huge pan of apple crisp is in the oven, another friend has been filled with tea and biscuits and sent off with a bag of apples and another batch of windfalls are in the apple bucket. Have I mentioned I have APPLES?

Soooo many apples. They came in early this year too, the bees obviously did a good job this past spring.
The plums are just showing color - which is fine by me! I'm not ready to deal with plums yet, but the blush is pretty:

Grapes are peeking through the leaves - they're a bit shy, of course, as you would be if you were still green and company came along with a camera.

And yes, that is my little greenhouse somewhere under all those grape vines:

Even the rose-apples are coming in bigger than usual - lots of fat rose-hips to nibble this year:

And did I mention I have APPLES?

Munch munch munch.
So - what are your summertime-only jobs? What does your yard have too much of?

Date: 2012-08-14 06:08 am (UTC)I have a good recipe for apple butter that is crockpot-cooked. However, I recommend using an old crockpot for it, because if your lid is plastic, it will... hmm, not stain or discolor so much as scent mark it for all time.
Plums? Jelly? My grammy used to make plum jelly and it was my all time favorite jelly.
Alas, our entire garden, even the onions, died this year. No matter how we watered, the heat was deadly. I have plans to protect it better next year, but opted not to try a late summer/fall garden to replace it.
