Deciphering Decipher
May. 19th, 2004 06:13 pmI've seen several references to "what will happen" to the Decipher boards - I haven't the faintest notion how long they will really last, but the official plan is to go at least as long as the magazines. Decipher has poor communication and underfed/overworked employees, so the technical aspects of the boards may flicker from time to time. It isn't their focus. I'm sure it would be different if they could make money off of our writings! Rather sad that we have such a clueless host.
As to the community itself, I expect it will begin to fade once the dvd is out - seasons of life are like that - there may be a brief surge over the extended rotk, then many will wander off to other playgrounds such as this one. I know I already do most of my "playfulness" at the Gap of Rohan and Bucklebury, and I'm sure others have also found places that suit their own pace and personality. I've been asked, but I'm not sure where the Scrapbook will go...I will add to it as long as there are those who are interested, and will keep it up as long as anyone is reading it, which could be a very long time indeed. I expect in time I will be spending more time developing the main Bookloaf site, perhaps more towards classical literature and poetry. Right now it serves as little but a catch-all.
I am still amazed at the amount of excellent writing that comes from the fanclub community - there is more excellent fanfic out there than anyone could read in their lifetime, but that so much of what this relatively little group of women (for the most part) produce is of such quality is a treat. It's been quite a journey, these years. I can't believe I didn't even know how to send an email when I first joined up there, much less all this html whatnot and gobbledygook that I'm still puzzling out.
Just maundering. Off to read a Little House on the Prairie book to my youngest now.
