Writers meme
Mar. 12th, 2007 05:52 pmArgh, I did it again...I fell back into just reading other people's journals and not posting to my own. Thankfully, my dear
lothithil tagged me for this writer's meme, which may help jog me out of that lurking phase. Also as a generic update, if anyone wants to grab any fannish goodies the online yard sale at the Fellowship of M-e is still going through the 16th, and we're voting on the date for our next theme day, The Horses of Middle-earth.
Writer's Meme: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
In no particular order - it was hard enough to figure out five, much less to rank them - I ended up narrowing it by choosing one from five categories:
1. Nothing of Note
A rather lengthy Bilbo-centric gap-filler tale for the year leading up to Bilbo's decision to adopt Frodo. I just plain enjoyed writing this, and I still like it, though I would like to do some editing someday. This was an indulgence for me, a long rambling, gentle tale without much 'angst' beyond the 'daily angst' that fills our humdrum lives. Believe it or not, my Bilbo is almost a Mary-Sue in some ways, there is a lot of me in him.
2. CĂrdan
A long poem packed chock-full of sensory touches and colors and thoughts. It is free-form, rather than structured, but took a lot of thought and I still smell the sea when I read it.
3. Song of Bingo and Lobelia
One of my first long parodies, written shortly after discovering the HoME books and laughing over poor Bingo Baggins - thank heavens the Good Professor changed that one. It only slightly makes sense but it still makes me laugh.
4. The Bill (it is among the others on this page)
This is a humorous adaptation of a famous poem that I actually hate, Poe's The Bells, done up with a gas-ridden, bloating Bill the Pony. My family still quotes this, the Bill, Bill, Bill...
5. Song for a Cute Fuzzy Moth (16th down on this collected page)
This is to the tune of "A Might Fortress is Our God" and remains one of my very favorites. My kids sing this in the car sometimes too. :-D I'm a parody junkie and tend to amuse myself with coming up with them.
~ Whew ~
No tags, but I encourage anyone who hasn't done this to give it a try!
