Return of the Grape
Sep. 18th, 2009 07:35 pmThis morning I was rejoicing greatly that the last of my plums were in (well, most of them, just a few that were held back in Ripening 101 class still among the leaves) and thinking I would sit back a few days and ignore the yard and write, when I realized the yellow transparents were all over the ground and in gathering those up to make some apple crisp and sauce I passed through the grape arbor and realized it was heavily scented of ripe concords.
Oh my.
SO...instead of flaking out, it was peel and steam time. We are dining on a huge pan of apple crisp and the steamer is underway on the stove, steaming out the first of what promises to be MANY quarts of grape juice this year, and a huge metal bowl of yet more apples awaits me on the deck. So much for writing!
My house smells like a fruity winery, or the inside of a very large grape.
