Okay - I officially give up (again) on keeping up here, but shan't let it stop me from occasionally managing to post something anyway...

I can't wait for Christmas break - school is out for two weeks as of tomorrow - but in the meantime...

I managed to remember to bring canned food for the food drive, box-tops for the box-top collecting contest and a batch of cookies for the cookie exchange. Whew...

Then kids announced last night that two of them needed books for their classroom holiday book exchanges. Thank goodness I have a stash of like-new books I hoard for trade-ins at the local bookstore... we got those wrapped up pretty for this morning. Then I find a piece of paper in my daughter's backpack that tells me they both need costumes for the play - the next day! Off to be creative with whatever we can find in our closets. Assembled one angel and one quasi-shepherd who looks more like an small italian terrorist.

Then at breakfast my son says "Oh, I forgot. I need a bottle of juice for the class party."

Ack... The sparkling cider that I'd stashed for Christmas maybe? "No, she said it has to be in a plastic bottle."

He ended up with a bottle of diet grapefruit juice that I'm sure the kids will hate, as it was the only thing I had in the required packaging!

Makes me paranoid, wondering what else I either don't know about or have forgotten.

A bit of verse for those of us who read, and write, by John Donne - I've taken the liberty of updating the spelling to make it easier to understand -

Study our manuscripts, those Myriads
Of letters, which have passed twixt thee and me,
Thence write our Annals, and in them will be
To all whom loves subliming fire invades,
Rule and example found;
There, the faith of any ground
No schismatique* will dare to wound,
That sees, how Love this grace to us affords,
To make, to keep, to use, to be these his Records.

This Book, as long-liv'd as the elements,
Or as the worlds form, this all-graved tome
In cypher writ, or new made Idiom,
For our loves clergy only are instruments:
When this book is made thus,
Should against the ravenous
Vandals and Goths inundate us,
Learning were safe; in this our Universe
Schools might learn Sciences, Spheres Music, Angels and Verse.

Here Love Divines (since all Divinity
Is love or wonder) may find all they seek,
Whether abstract or spiritual love they like,
Their souls exhal'd with what they do not see,
Or, loth so to amuse
Faiths infirmity, they choose
Something which they may see and use;
For, though mid be the heaven, where love doth sit,
Beauty a convenient type may be to figure it.

...

Thus vent thy thoughts; abroad I'll study thee,
As he removes far off, that great height takes
How great love is, presence best trial makes,
But absence tries how long this love will be;
To take a latitude
Sun, or stars, are fittest view'd
at their brightest, but to conclude
Of longitudes, what other way have we,
But to marke when, and where the dark eclipses be?

- From "A Valediction of the Book" by John Donne

(((((((Prim)))))))) I remember those days. When kids tell you at the last minute that they needed someting for school. I think that kids do it to keep us on out toes.

Lovely thought for the day.
