This is the Summer That Never Ends, and also at the same time the Summer That is Flashing Before My Eyes! I can't believe it is already August, and I have to take my kids shopping for school pants, school shoes, school supplies already - ack!

The house is slooowly coming together, and at last it begins to look like something is happening. I have packed up most of the non-essentials in the 'old' house and am presiding over it, while hubby works on the other one for the most part. Lots of boxes, lots of gradual hauling in carloads when I am limited in what I can move until some of the work is completed.

The kitchen is partly installed, and almost all the carpets are done...two bathrooms still need help, and the windows are only cuts in sheetrock to the size they will be when they come in, but it's getting there. Only small foibles so far. For instance, the carpet guys came to put in the new carpet in the master bedroom today... soundsl ike that would be a good thing BUT unfortunately, they didn't wait for the icky black built-in vanity monstrosity to be ripped out by the other guy first, hence they cut a big chunk out of the carpet and carpeted around it... aigh! Then they took the remnant with them, so we are having to chase them to get it back to plug up the hole! ARGH!

I've replaced some of the icky light fixtures already because I just couldn't stand to look at them anymore, even though we were originally going to do that after the painting was completed. Oh well!

I've been washing, sealing and priming and painting the dark grey concrete laundry room in the basement. If I have to be there that much, day after day, it's NOT going to look like a dungeon, IMHO. Now it looks like - well, I was thinking "sunrise colors" but my daughter very correctly dubbed it "SweetTarts". Hee hee... She's right.

The grapes are ripening, and I'm making apple crisp from the early apples that are falling from the trees. The plums are getting purple and the roses are blooming like crazy. Now there are glads opening up along with the lilies too. I think I'm going to look forward to seeing what this yard does in the spring!

I wish I had some - let me know if you find someone who knows what they are talking about. I've trimmed the arbor back to keep it from taking over the greenhouse, but I am clueless as to what to do with the grapes. Only thing I've done with them before is blanch the leaves for Greek dolmas.
