verse thursday... or friday... or whatever...

A little e.e. cummings for this day, though I didn't manage to get it posted on Thursday itself - I first discovered him sometime in junior high, I think. At first I was repelled (What the heck does he think he's doing? Can't he even be bothered to capitalize? What is this stuff?) then completely drawn in by his marvelous use of arranging the words, spaces and breaks to create rhythms, feelings, fragmentation of thought, pictures drawn not only with phrases but with the words and even the individual letters sometimes (or just the punctuation). I then went out and bought an anthology of his work when I was in high school, and still enjoy reading through it from time to time. Some of his topics almost frighten me, some of them are far too intense and personal and I almost shy away from them, as if I have caught the poet half-dressed, by surprise, but it's always worth the ride.
