As I came home I noticed Pi pouncing underneath the maples - sure enough, as I parked and got out, she was trotting along with a very fat mole in her mouth. I've been having a lot of mole-hills, especially in annoying places like centered in the lawn, or right under the new plantings so I admit I was pleased at this particular catch. Unfortunately, she brought it near me and dropped it, watching it move so she could play with it. The poor little critter was waving its pink paws and squeaking and...and... aigh! "Just KILL it, will you?" I hollered at her. She looked at me, unperturbed and batted it around. I couldn't watch any more - I went in the house and tried not to think of how much it looked like a big version of our adorable hamster. *sigh* cats...

I hate nature sometimes. At least it disappeared after that, rather than showing up in...er... parts.

Household tigers strike again!

We are sensitive people, who hate to see any living thing suffer. Blame it on prepackaged food and supermarkets. If we had to kill and clean our own meat, we'd probably never think twice about a poor mole or mouse under the cat's paw.

*sigh* And as you said, at least she didn't bring you the carcass as a present! blech!

LOL! That's a good point, Loth. Cat's going about their catly business might be less disturbing if we took a weekly trip to the slaughterhouse instead of the grocery store. Vegetarianism is sounding better and better - except plants feel pain, too...ahhhhh! hee

Of course the real reason you don't want to see mole parts is because that would mean the cat may have eaten some. Cats can't digest moles. Makes them sick. They learn this the first time they try it, then they never eat one again, but the first time - ewww all over your carpet.

Adoreable icon! Yes, my two have been thinking the bird feeders are a buffet line lately and Jules got a vole. They are little tigers. *sigh*

Rats in the Attic

Some rats have moved in right above our bedroom. We first heard them in the bathroom walls. We called in some professionals who verified that all entry ways had been closed off when we had our damperless, 85 year-old fireplace and chimney refitted and re-sealed last week. Hence, the rats are trapped in the attic and are eating our house (wires, insulation...). So traps have been set and it is unsettling hearing them snap every so often. The professionals will be out once a week for the next month of so to monitor how things are going. Apparently they were called out here before by the previous owners as they were able to show us places they had plugged last summer.
