My son informs me that they've discovered plumes of methane on the north pole of Mars. This confirms for us what we all guessed all along - there is not only life on Mars, it is cows.

With space helmets. Like
Though admittedly, these were on the moon.(from a 1994 Doctor Who comic, talking psychopathic space-cows courtesy of Gareth Roberts' imagination, lol...)

Which reminds me - My kids got me The Sea Devils for a belated Christmas present - one of my very favorite episodes with tops teamwork for Three, Jo & Delgado and plenty of outdoors action instead of running about through corridors. Sword fights! Sandwiches! Somersaulting over razor-wire! Mucho happiness has ensued in spite of the continued shaking of heads over the dismal sound track on this one. It could be SO good if it had different music, if I was a musician it would probably be my life goal to re-do The Sea Devils, and The Silurians as well - what is it about that particular enemy that brings out the preschool band with its kazoos, jaw-harp, wood-blocks and small-child-randomly-playing-a-synthesizer? Oh ouch.

Alas, I a cannot music but I can write. Was rather surprised and pleased that I've gotten some nominations from the Children of Time awards, [livejournal.com profile] children_time - a drabble, a short story, a crackfic and 'favorite new author' - all in the classic category of course. It's an embarrassment of riches, even when they are only nominations but I admit it helps keep me writing. I hate to think I'm dependent on warm fuzzies to write, but I can't deny a good review is like an infusion of rocket-fuel to the muse.

So... does that mean you also have Silurians and Warriors of the Deep? (Just being nosy and wondering if the DVDs were sold separately elsewhere.) But yay for the Master watching the clangers and, yes, swordfights and sandwiches. ;-)

And I remember those cows!! (Have been reading DWM for much, much too long...)

I do have Silurians, but it's on vhs (almost all of mine are) - and no Warriors of the Deep yet, but I'm always hopeful I'll find it somewhere along the way. I remember seeing that dvd set, thought it was brilliant marketing to follow the story in spite of it being a different Doctor.

Ah, right. You see, it didn't sound as if you were in possession of further reptile lifeforms, but they're not available separately on DVD over here. So, being nosy...! And I'm slowly transferring. I'm hooked on the commentaries. (Peter Davison and Janet Fielding are so entertaining... And Caroline John and Nicholas Courtney discussing the Brigadier's love life in Spearhead in Space was lovely. Erm. You can imagine that would appeal to me!)

Although you'll need more tissues than ever if you risk the cry-along-with-Katy commentary on The Green Death!! ;-)

Oh yes, the Who DVD commentaries are wonderful. I've only heard... what, two or three of them? But there is absolutely nothing to beat a Nick Courtney commentary! Normally, a good commentary will have one or two of these: 1) funny stories about filming, 2) "ooh look there's _____, what an amazing actor, great guy, he also did _____" repeated as needed, 3) backstory trivia, or 4) chatter with the other commentators about what they're doing now. Nick does all four, plus makes fun of his own crooked mustache!

(I still think the BBC insisted on him wearing a fake and he just says it was his idea because he's that sort of a guy. I've heard it both ways, after all.)

Plus he's just all-around a wonderful man - the person I am jealousest of in the world is a lady who's been going to Who cons forever, knows everybody, and once had Nick hide from a stalker in her hotel room while she bought him an emergency plane-change ticket!

(Okay, the same lady also tells another story of having Jon Pertwee and Colin Baker squish her to make her choose a favorite Doctor... hee hee, that one makes me REALLY jealous! *g*)

I still need a Brig icon!

I would love to hear his commentaries now - my favorites so far from the few I've heard were Five and his team, they are hilarious together. Which stories do you recall have the best ones? I know there are some out there that folks have said were duds and not really worth the listen, but none of those had Nick aboard to my recollection.

I've only heard "The Three Doctors" (fricasseein' hilarious; Nick, Katy Manning, and Barry Letts), "Spearhead from Space" (very interesting, him and Caroline John talking about filming on location at the hospital and starting to work with Jon and all), and possibly "Inferno". I think I must have heard the "Inferno" commentary because I can't think where else I would have heard that tidbit about the saucepans...

Really, though, I'd bet you couldn't go wrong with any of Nick's commentaries. If you already like the Five crew, why not try "Mawdryn Undead"? I know he's on that one.

Oh, I forgot: I've been nominated for Children of Time, too. Strangely. I don't know how or why, or why one of the stories has been chosen. It's all a bit random. But nice. (Not as exciting as my nomination for an Adric many moons ago, but still nice.) And good luck - we're not up against each other, so that's fine... Heh.

And I think I'm coping with my review addiction now, but it was becoming a serious issue... ;-D
