I have a wonderful son - proof is that he wanted to go to a local Brit-owned tea house for a good manly sausage roll and cheese lunch, which meant all of us got to go too.

As usual, we didn't escape without a basket full of goodies, like Yorkshire Gold and a can of good treacle and some of that instant custard powder, a fruity malt loaf and jelly babies... They also had the hugest jar of Marmite I've ever seen. He picked out a little steak-and-kidney pie to take in his lunch to school, and elderflower. How in the world did we end up with so many Brit tastes when we've never been there? Well, yeah - I mean, hubby's family has a British name, but still... is it *that* strong in the genetics? X-D

I chalk it up to too much Doctor Who and P.G. Wodehouse myself, what ho?

Yum.

We've always been adventurous eaters, I'll try almost anything at least once. The result is our family tastes seem a bit eclectic and unusual to people who visit ("What is that?" "Butter squid! Oh, and here, try dipping the almonds in marmite, it's pretty good." "Uuuuh.")

Your son is wonderful, indeed! :)

On Saturday, we travelled to a high tea at a teashop back in the back of beyond (Real Atlantans don't think of much of things outside the Perimeter, LOL!), and the tea was lovely, as was the company. It was the first meeting of the GA Regency group, so we all came in some kind of Regency garb. Much fun.

There's also a British pub or two around, but I'm more familiar with the Irish ones, so to speak (not as Irish as one might hope). And there's a lovely shop near me called Taste of Britain that has food and gifts, a dangerous place for my wallet, to be sure. :)

I've always been an Anglophile, ever since I can remember. Now that I can sample Brit food and drink, along with the TV shows, music, movies, and clothes, I'm rather happy. One day I hope to visit there.

I hadn't! Great fun, gathering them all up like that. While Four made them 'famous' it was Two who started the whole thing, ha... We divvied up our bag and snarfed them - I have a singular black currant one carefully reserved for next time I need a pick-me-up. ;-)

My daughter [livejournal.com profile] everloyal has heard rumors of a Who-friendly Brit-owned pub somewhere near her college - it has become our goal to find this place now.
