Where did the daylight go?

Why is it dark outside already? Why do all my neighbors' houses look like Snoopy's doghouse? We have four men on this street who really get going on the competition about lights thing - we're one of those streets people drive slowly up and down when they go 'light-looking' for Christmas. And then there's my poor house, with only a limp cloth wreath stuck on the door as a sort of "really, I like Christmas, really I do..." excuse. Sigh. I just have no time for it, even if I knew where all my lights are packed at the other house I wouldn't drag them back to this one.

The nice thing is I'm moving to a house that *can't be seen from the road*! Woohoo! All I have to do is string some lights across the back deck for the RV-er's behind the property if I feel like it. I've always ended up having to do all the decorating at my house - and I won't miss mucking about with wet, cold lights nooo precious, I won't.

Got a bath cabinet mounted on the wall...much harder to do than I thought it would be, the 'hold the cabinet on the wall and mark where the screws need to go' part nearly had me in tears of frustration. I can understand homeowners who go beserk and just start pounding holes in walls...at least the impulse. Not the actually doing it, that is.

On the good side, the carpet guys are done as of today and I finally get to move furniture and have it *stay* where I put it, instead of everything being heaped to the side to be out of the way. I'm sooo happy about that - it was one of the big obstacles still in my way and now it's gone - yay! I just got back from the hardware store, stocked up on wall anchors and such and rarin' to go tomorrow. I am determined to be completely moved by Christmas, if only for the sake of my kids who can't take any more of this transistion nonsense.

Hardly been home lately - feel like a hamster running and running in my wheel. It is comforting to know it won't always be like this, no matter how much it feels like it right now.

For some reason I thought you were already moved. Sure hope you get it all done when you want to -- transitions are definitely stretching, and stretching isn't always fun.

There is a house a couple of miles away from me that has a good acre for a front yard, and goes completely decorations-crazy this time of year. He has the usual bright, moving deer and nativities, but he adds his own extra flair to the mix, such as large, comical bats with lights blinking around them. My favorite though is a huge, cardboard tractor outlined in blinking christmas tree lights. LOL. Ah, the holiday season. :P

The large, light up/ blow up character are all the rage around here. We even had someone on our street that had a huge blow up light up Turkey. LOL! The silly thing always looked like it was bobbing it's head up and down as the wind would blow it around.

One day after Thanksgiving we were driving past this house on the way home and I wondered aloud where the turkey was? Tori, calmly reminded me that it was after Thanksgiving. D'oh!

I've NEVER put lights up outside. My contribution is to put the Christmas tree in the front window so when it's lit you can see it from outside. Mark sometimes will get motivated to put lights up outside. We'll see if it happens this year though. We're both so busy and tired all the time. I'll just be happy if I actually get my tree decorated and my curtains in place before Christmas. That's my goal.

So good to hear that you can start seriously placing furniture! I'm sure you can get moved in by then!

As for Christmas lights...I feel so lucky I'm not in a neighborhood like that, I love X-mas and lights but too many drive me nuts. We just do one tree...and the only reason that gets done is because we leave the lights on all year and just have to fix some strands every year.

(Good gosh, when you wrote this post we hadn't yet moved or started our four-year transition/remodeling job! Wow.)

Um, hi. I'm in your archives nosing around... I have way too much time on my hands right now and thought I'd get to know you a little better. Hope I'm not creeping you out or anything. *g*
