Happy Father's Day to any dads out there!

As for me, I'm tackling the job of cleaning out some of the old stuff we still have stored in our church building, mostly leftovers from our grade school and am sitting here shaking my head over literally hundreds of uniform pieces. What the heck does a person DO with *piles* of khaki pants, white button-down shirts, sweatshirts, etc.... I mean, really? I haven't been able to find another school that uses the same colors and I hate the waste. Wish I could somehow turn them into at least a little money, we could really use it.

Also heaps of VHS movies and audio cassettes - no one uses them anymore, sigh... makes me feel old. I suppose they'll all just go into a rummage sale, unless we make rag rugs out of them. The clothes that is, not the vhs tapes, lol...

There are times I am grateful for an abundance of material goods, but this isn't really one of them.

Hey Prim, I'm sure that some shelters in your area would be grateful for the clothes. If all else fails you can donate them to Goodwill. When they get clothes that are either unlikely (or too damaged) to sell they sell them by the pound for rags/recycling.

Oh, I know it - we have a couple urban ministries and women's shelters to give to here as well. I can give stuff away all right, but I just wish there was some means of getting even a little money back out of it for the church, we're not exactly rolling in dough ourselves and it would sure be handy to be able to put it towards building repairs.

Well, actually - so do I! Most of my movies are still on vhs because I don't have the random wealth to just go buy them all again on dvd, but no one checks them out from the church library anymore. Most of the ones I'm weeding out are old children's flicks and cheesy bad animation, some disney and stupid singalongs, etc...I'm keeping the Good Stuff, like our Bill Nye the Science Guy tapes, haha!

I heard an interesting piece on NPR recently about a video store that specialized in documentary/foreign/limited release type films. They finally did have to shut their doors after several close calls when the community rallied around them. The owner said he was flabbergasted at how many of the old VHS tapes (I think he even mentioned Beta, if I am not mistaken) were snapped up. Most by libraries, but also collectors. I suppose it could be because of the scarcity of some of the titles, but it can't hurt to list what you have on EBay or your shop on Etsy. You never know! You could make some money for the church and make some collector or library very happy.

Considering how often I bemoan that some of my old favorites are not even available on dvd, I think you're completely right - I may go through the titles and see if any have any promise. I was thinking I might try putting some of the old school supplies up as well, like the boxed mineral kits from the science classes.
