Right at the curve of our driveway there is what I took to be a young tree of some sort, it's base surrounded by Oregon Grape and thick with three colors of bluebells - I gave it only passing thought, as something bland and deciduous with green leaves.

It bloomed.

Deep wine lilacs.

It's not a young tree at all, it's an old bush! A very well-established lilac bush, that may date back to the house being built, mid-60's. I've trimmed some and put them in an opalescent volcano-glass vase in the window.

May we all produce something as lovely and youthful in our old age.

I cried when we had to cut down our family lilac bush to make way for curb and gutter in front of our house. I love lilacs -- the color, the smell, everything! What a blessing!

Gosh, I miss my old lilac bush. We had one where I used to live when I was little. It's amazing how somethign so simple can stir such fond memories.

I have such fond memories of the lilacs in my parent's and grandparent's yards and the Lilac Festival every year in Rochester, NY. What a wonderful surprise! I bet they smell divine in your house!

Oh I love lilacs! My aunt has 4 bushes in her back yard that my great aunt planted. We used to go home with dozens of them and the smell in the apartment was outstanding! I bet that bush is absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to see pictures of it!

Oh, Prim! That sounds lovely. It is too hot for lilacs here, unfortunately. One of the two roses that was in my yard when I moved in is blooming. It has deep rosey red/pink flowers that only have a few petals. It has a heady scent and is bushy in formation. I think it is an older variety of rose. :)
