I can't believe it has been over a month since I got a chapter up for Nothing of Note - such a struggle to close this tale. My dear old curmudgeonly Bilbo doesn't seem to want to ever stop, but I must pull on his reins or I'll never have time to write anything *else*... Thankfully, the next-to-last one is now up. This being the first time I've ever written anything so huge, have you other serial writers found this to be the way it goes, or do your characters quietly accede to their time being over? (for now) -

And Lin, you don't count - Boromir *lives in your house* for pity's sake...

:-D Yes, it's hard to get away from that guy, he's always pulling a face at me if I even think of writing another character. Only Gondor characters are allowed these days. I really was hoping to get free to do something Gandalfish, but no!

I think when you spend so much time with one character, you actually start to think like them and it is hard to get away, and wrap things up. They do seem to take on actual substance, to the point that they determine when the story ends and not the writer! There are always more ideas, ways to lengthen the story and put off the inevitable end. And admit it, we get fond of these guys and don't want to see them go. So we are easily persuaded to do just one more chapter....

I'll just go over and see how Bilbo's doing. ;-)

BTW, if Bor's not busy tomorrow, can I borrow him to help me clean out my shed? Tell him I have Cool Ranch doritos and his favorite onion dip....

None of my characters have ever gone quietly into this good night...in fact, they balk, refuse to cooperate and lay around my living room eating cookies and watching Dr. Phil...

Seriously, it is not always easy to end a long tale. You grow attached to your creations, they take on a life of their own, and often go places and do things you never intended. But it is oftentimes a relief to finally close the book and know you wrote the best tale that you could and made people who read it happy. If you are satisfied, then you have succeeded - and you most certainly have. ((( Prim)))

They certainly do take on a mind of their own, and the venerable Mr.B.Baggins can be quite surprising and stubborn. I may take him on a couple other small romps - he would like to visit the Dwarves, he says. And yes, I am both relieved to be so near the end, and reluctant also. Thank you (((((kiwi))))))

Cookies...mmm. What kind? Will there be any leftovers for my hobbits?

Well, Boromir favors Oreos, while Frodo and Sam like Chips Ahoy...and Saruman ( determined to be difficult, as usual) favors Pepperidge Farm Milanos...and he doesn't share. This has led to a scuffle or two, and Saruman once gave Sam a near concussion with his staff ( even broken, it still can deliver a blow)over some oatmeal raisin bars; that was a nasty scene. Crying, screaming...Saruman went through a whole box of Puffs when Frodo called his hair a bad fright wig! *wonders if her fantasy life is getting a little out of hand*

Ooooo....Milanos....Puffs.... I may have more in common with Saruman than I thought. You know, this would make a great short parody, filled out a little... hee!

Feia showed up in the late seventies. I don't think she is planning to leave in the near future, lol! The weird thing is, that she sort of tells me what to do when it comes to writing, it doesn't seem to matter what I think I want her to do. She has her own ideas. That happens with all the characters I write about. I am not sure if its insanity, (lol, probably!) but its certainly odd to argue with a fictional person, especially one you made up! Can't say I don't love every minute of it, though, it would be a lie! ;)
