Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em.

List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.

church history - Having been raised in a secular home within the public school system, I had no idea how much history had been left out of my schooling until I had a class on the Reformation taught at my church - all the sudden a whole world of centuries of fascinating history opened up that I had no knowledge of, huge events that defined current country boundaries, international law, higher education and languages - wow! I had never been taught a peep of it - had no notion of even the simplest ones like Martin Luther. I may be teaching a class about it myself this next spring, it's so cool.

etymology - who couldn't love this? The fascination of chasing all those delightfully obscure rabbit-trails that tell us where the words we use came from and how their usage has changed. It's a fun puzzle, and the trivia alone is good fun.

gardening - Not so much vegetable gardening but rather flowers and herbs. Few things in life are as therapeutic and rewarding as seeing plants thrive under my care, and I'm only beginning to learn about it.

libraries - I'm a librarian now, albeit for a small library, but I dreamed of being one when I was small. I have always loved rooms filled with books, old books are even better.

miniatures - I have a friend who is into miniature dollhouse stuff, and along the way I began building a miniature garden to go with it, should we ever have the time to put it all together, lol... I have the teensiest little windchimes and fuschia baskets, they're adorable. My LOTR action figures fit in with them very well, heh.

patrick o'brian - I am someone who only recently discovered Patrick O'Brian's marvelous sea-voyage books. I am grateful that it was before the movie was in the works or I should feel that I had been dragged in by advertising (something I despise). I have only slowly been able to work through them, but they are so rewarding and filled with detail! A great writer, no wonder he has fanclubs just for him.

richard armour - The master of the footnote pun. I have pretty much all his books - he was a college history professor with a fabulous sense of humor, and you can laugh so hard you fall off your bed at night, but also learn quite a lot about history on the way. His "Punctured Poems," It All Started with Europa" and twisted treatments of Shakespeare are favorites.

urban legends - I studied Folklore in college and in one of my many parellel lives I wish I could be a folklorist, tracing the mystery of where a certain tale or rhyme came from. Urban legends being the folklore of modern society, I have books on them too.

yeats - As in William Butler Yeats, one of my very favorite classic poets. I have several favorites, but his anthology is one of the best for just a good read. Read "When I Am Old and Grey" and see why he is so loved.

(this was fun - thanks, boriel!)

Noting your interest in etymology, you might like this LJ site:

It's lots of fun and informative.

I'll have to post my list. Seeing yours I realize I have a lot more interests than I have listed though! This is so much fun.
