The last couple days we've been finally upgrading my computer from the old Windows-Me to XP; It's so strange to only have part of my familiar desktop goodies available as we work on reproducing all that gradual customization that you get on your own comp, like walking into your living room to discover half the furniture is gone and the walls are a different color.

Does anyone else find it strangely disorienting to have changes on their computer? You would think a "virtual world" wouldn't seem so strange to remodel.

I like my glowing books icon - I think I'll use it, even though they aren't computers.

I totally understand that feeling! It always takes me a little while to get everything back to just how I like it; icons in the right places, folder names the same, the right combination of background picture, screensaver, alert sounds etc. it's most disconcerting when the new OS doesn't have exactly the same options!

I want to change the layout of my LJ shortly, but keep stalling because I'm comfortable with the existing one and don't have to think too hard about what's where etc. At the same time, I'm itching to use the new mood theme I've got here - oh, the dilema!

Your glowing book reminds me of me of when Harry Potter falls into Tom Riddle's diary in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets :)

it took me a long time to get used to windows xp after using windows 98...and now my kids old ratty computer downstairs might only accept 98 so i might need to get used to it again :) but it comes faster as you use it and after awhile you dont even notice it.

One thing I'll say for XP is that you don't have it crash on you like ME used to always do for us. However, ME was never prey to all those worms and virus attacks that XP is.

It's always hard to change, especially the very personal and familiar things like how you have your computer set up. Hope it won't take long to discover new things you like about it that will help you get over the things you miss.

I never had Win2K or ME, I went straight from Win98 to WinXP. It was a little strange, but not too bad. What was harder was getting used to the high-rez setting on my screen which made everything smaller... I had to choose extra-large system fonts to be able to read anything!

I love your glowing book icon, it's perfectly "you"... =)
