Yard on fire
Jul. 12th, 2006 08:27 amAfter a time of dust and heat, the coolness of the rain has returned, a summer rain, blowing in last night with a fresh, sweet, wet scent. Only the clouds and the breeze hailed it when we slept, but this morning the ground is delightfully damp and the colors are glowing under the muted cloud-light. I've opened the windows to let the cool green rain-smell come in and am watching the leaves of the poplars and plum trembling and shining as I type.
The daylilies are still blooming madly with the little strawberry blossoms all curling around their feet, so many colors and so bright. The spent blossoms of the previous days fall away, the new always taking their place. Would that we could all let go of past glories so easily, to take on the new.
