Hey all you librarian types out there (and you know who you are - ha!) Take your nose out of that book just for a moment and tell me if you've heard of any kind of software for *small* libraries with limited budgets - my antiquated Auto-Librarian (ick) is horrid and as I am going to be getting both a better computer (and internet, woot!) I am shopping around for something better, especially as I'm going to be setting up a small library for yet another church/school this year.

Danke! Mucho!

Hmmmm...we use SIRSI at Nunez and at all state schools. I've only ever worked for Nunez except for my six weeks at NOPL and they used something similar. I don't know what a small, independent library might use but I'll try to find out for you.

Don't go to too much trouble, but if something obvious floats by that would be great - We've been digging around and found something several libraries in Georgia are using that is open-source (Free is a Very Good Price) that looks better than the dinosaur I've been wrangling with so there may be an answer for it there, if we can make it work out. I especially like that it lets you 'browse the shelf' - you can see what else is to either side of the selection you have, a feature I have missed ever since the old paper card catalogs went away.
