Well, after some research on their privacy policies, etc. I decided to skip Facebook - besides, as the main point is for people to 'find you' and all the people I've really wanted to keep track of I mostly have, I don't see the benefit quite fitting where I am.

On the other hand, I would very much like to welcome my daughter, [profile] starbells to LiveJournal! It's enough to keep up with, I think, and there's plenty of places to play. She and I are especially enjoying a new family oriented Who site, [livejournal.com profile] tardis_children.

After a week of mucho craziness with extra people in the house, our pastor and his family got to get into their own place last night - only ones still here are the two friendly cats and we're getting rather attached to them. Life is good. Pastor keeps a amusing blog - wonder if I can lure him over here eventually.

A well thought out Facebook choice. I have reservations about having it myself, but so far no problems. Oddly it was LJ where my privacy was threatened, though I have rectified that I think.

A warm welcome to starbells! I hope she enjoys her journal as much as I do.

I was more concerned about the advertisers tracking me than the 'real people' - It irritates me when they have the ability to see not only what I do there, but to track me from there to see what my 'other interests' are so they can tailor advertising to what their corporate marketing dept. thinks I should buy. Gah.

That grumbling aside, I'm sure it's a fine tool - obviously a lot of folks have gotten a lot of good out of it. :-)

Yay! Welcome to your daughter...may I friend her? Would love her to friend me (if she doesn't mind my political posts...or maybe she'll want to wait till after the election...probably after that I'll go back to using my political filter. But I definitely would like to friend her :)

Life must have been crazy for you lately with your pastor's family there!

One side-effect of having a larger home is getting to bring people into it, something I really don't mind - I think it helps us not fall too deeply into a territorial 'rut/routine' in our little space here.

Yeah, probably wait til after the election... I admit, we're certainly on the other end of the spectrum from you! ;-)

Yeah I thought you might be. But I just have to say that I think you are *far too nice* to be a McCain supporter...at least some of the supporters I've seen and heard in recent weeks ;o Some have been really hateful, but you are such a sweetheart, gentle, kind, loving ;) It just doesn't compute for me ;) {{{{Hugs to you}}}}

One thing about politics is it polarizes, pigeonholes and overgeneralizes like mad - I suppose it has to, to deal with the huge numbers of people involved. I had to laugh at your summing up of McCain supporters, as I've seen the same from the 'other side'... people will be people, no matter where they are busy planting a flag, and you'll get good, bad and ugly in every camp as long as there are human beings involved.

That is so true...I realize there are bad apples in every group...it was just one video I saw where just about *everyone* in line waiting to get into a McCain Rally was chanting some kind of epithat or hostile remark...Up till then, I figured it was just a few kooks.

And I *know* that you would *never* say things like that and neither would a few of my other Christian friends who are supporting McCain...its too bad that a few of you good ones have to be so overshadowed by so many bad ones :(

Btw, we've been to both an Obama rally and just yesterday, a Biden rally, and I never heard anything of that kind of remark (kill him, terrorist, or anything of that general nature) being shouted out. The *only* thing negative you hear is some booing at the speaker's comments now and then, and I'm not even all that comfortable with that to be honest. Other than that, there are just positive shouts of Yes We Can, Obama, etc. And I've never heard anything shouted at rallies on tv either. I'm sure there are some kooks at the Obama rallies too...I've just never heard of them, or heard them personally.

If he is a Tolkien fan, you can make some points, and give him my elvish handle Lavindur (The anointed Ones servant) as I passed it on to Faithwalker, Tini's hubby.

cats are a good thing, but they do require Staff.

I just thought I would let you know this as a point of interest. Mostly extended family (cousins, etc.) and friends I specifically send there are the only people I have been contacted by through Facebook. However a couple of people I didn't mind being found by looked me up there. My ex-fiance found my LJ through Facebook a few months ago (it was nice catching up) and today one of the women I used to be an RA with at Nazareth College found me. It happens. Not that I am suggesting you change your mind!

The cats are gone. It's pretty strange having one of the rooms in our house smell like them, but our cat is pretty happy about it. She's an outdoor cat so normal she doesn't stink up the house.

I kind of miss them, they were so sweet - and they were such good cats, they didn't 'stink it up' either. I'm just glad they did so well, considering their world was being all topsy-turvy.
