Got up extra early and picked my kids and their friends up from an all-night skating party at the local rink. Came in to find the staff all looking like zombies as they staggered along, the DJ valiantly trying to sound peppy as he announced the last song for our all night party! and a grand total of one skater still making it slowly around the rink.

A real determined trooper, my girl.

The remaining ones all alternated between hyper telling me about the events of the evening and slumping/staring from fatigue while she stubbornly skated that last song, then off we went - they're all conked out now, one conked on the front steps en route to the house and had to be coaxed in, even with it raining on her.

I remember doing this sort of thing when I was a teen, but it takes me longer and longer to 'bounce back' the older I get. Kind of annoying, really. DH still has to 'pull an all-nighter' from time to time when deadlines hit with his work, but it's harder for him than it used to be too.

Any of you still do all-nighters? How does it affect you? Or maybe you are one of those eternally youthful energetic folks?

I still do for deadlines sometimes, but I find that although the doing isn't so bad, the recovery takes longer than it once did. Very annoying! LOL

I love that your daughter stuck with it right through to the end. Although in her long list of accomplishments this may not stack up from an outside perspective, keeping our promises to ourselves and following through on our best intentions is actually pretty huge. Go her!

Oh yes! I expect we'll be hearing about it all this week. She can be pretty focused, but this was a big one to her. :-)

My dad who is in his late 60s now still occasionally joins a friend of his to 'ride shotgun' on taking a semi-truck load down to CA or TX from time to time. He loves it, but how tired he is when he gets back is starting to really irk him. Old batteries just don't recharge the same, do they?

I have pulled only one or two all-nighters (and I'm still a college student) and I find even now they can knock me on my butt. I avoid them as much as possible because I know even if I'm, by some miracle, productive through the night (talking about college work here) I'm completely unproductive for the next day or two.

I can go a couple days straight with very little sleep, and pull through alright, for example I was up until four last night at the Halloween party and I got up today a nine feeling mostly alright, but no sleep at all is rough.

I've never been able to do it very well, and it's definitely getting even more difficult with the passage of time.
