Happy New Year to all and sundry!  Hey, go us! We made it to 2014!

As one of my pastors says, "Did you wake up this morning? Did you get out of bed? Then thank God that you woke up and had the use of your limbs.  Some people didn't wake up, some people can't get out of bed.  It's a wonderful day!"
Nothing is missed as much as the mundane when it isn't there, after all.

Fell asleep to the sound of fireworks going off in the surrounding neighborhoods, some of which sounded distinctly like they ought to be illegal but hey, at least they weren't followed by sounds of distress and/or sirens...shakes the dust off the trees for the new year, right?  Had subsequent dreams of people shooting holes in boats and trying to blow up a library, heh.

Hope it's a good day / month / season / year for everyone - I tend to be an optimist about the future for the most part, everything looks full of promise when it hasn't happened yet, same reason I love mornings.

Dreamed that an alarm clock was going off and someone was asking me "Where is that alarm coming from? Is it yours?"

Woke up because I had to check my alarm clock to be sure it wasn't going off. At 4:15 am.

Gah.

On the good side, it's Friday!

I did it, I went for a paid account at DW, and I'm so haaaappy! I am having a spaz of icon love for getting to finally have more than 15 of them, though I severely fail at icon etiquette at the moment because I fell into the lazy habit of snagging anything that caught my fancy or amused me for a while and neglected to note who made them. SO - here be my disclaimer...if you think you made something I have and would like credit, just send me a pm and I'll be happy to add that info, or if you take offense at my even having it for reasons of your own, I'll replace it with something else, no prob.

Celebrated by making a small number myself, stayed up too late doing it, like I'll ever learn not to stay up too late. That's what caffeine is for, right? Consider the retro fifties slogan - COFFEE! Because you can sleep when you're dead. Which is ironic because all I've had is tea, but hey... Now I want to work on a custom mood set.

I'm switching some of my communities where I find good replacements (turned off LJ's 'gardening' and turned on DW's version of same, for instance) but still keeping most of the home-fire burning over there for now.

...early in the mornin'....

You know, when my kids were little I could just lift them out of bed if they wouldn't get up.

Then they got big enough I could still *pull* them out of bed if all else failed...

Now they're just big lumps and I am reduced to yanking off covers, tickling and flashing lights.

What are some of your suggested ways of getting a teen out of bed when regular alarms fail to produce movement? My dad blasted us with the soundtrack from 2001, but I have other people in the house who still need to sleep. I can't do the 'natural consequences' because left to themselves they really don't seem to care if they miss school. :-P

Got up extra early and picked my kids and their friends up from an all-night skating party at the local rink. Came in to find the staff all looking like zombies as they staggered along, the DJ valiantly trying to sound peppy as he announced the last song for our all night party! and a grand total of one skater still making it slowly around the rink.

A real determined trooper, my girl.

The remaining ones all alternated between hyper telling me about the events of the evening and slumping/staring from fatigue while she stubbornly skated that last song, then off we went - they're all conked out now, one conked on the front steps en route to the house and had to be coaxed in, even with it raining on her.

I remember doing this sort of thing when I was a teen, but it takes me longer and longer to 'bounce back' the older I get. Kind of annoying, really. DH still has to 'pull an all-nighter' from time to time when deadlines hit with his work, but it's harder for him than it used to be too.

Any of you still do all-nighters? How does it affect you? Or maybe you are one of those eternally youthful energetic folks?
