...early in the mornin'....

You know, when my kids were little I could just lift them out of bed if they wouldn't get up.

Then they got big enough I could still *pull* them out of bed if all else failed...

Now they're just big lumps and I am reduced to yanking off covers, tickling and flashing lights.

What are some of your suggested ways of getting a teen out of bed when regular alarms fail to produce movement? My dad blasted us with the soundtrack from 2001, but I have other people in the house who still need to sleep. I can't do the 'natural consequences' because left to themselves they really don't seem to care if they miss school. :-P

A handful of snow down the neck does wonders for waking up reluctant teens. Failing that, ice cubes or cold water would work. (My husband says when he was a teen and wouldn't get up once his father tipped his bed out the window and put him in a snow drift. That was the last time he didn't get up when called!)

Or I suppose you could go the opposite route. Sit them down for a talk and emphasize how important it is that they learn this now because when they leave home you won't be there to get them off to work. If they still resist, start making them go to bed (lights out, no TV, computer, music or cell phone) at 8:00 so they get enough sleep to wake up on time.

It's too bad you need to let others sleep. There are some incredibly annoying alarm clocks just right for this situation.
