Movies meme - memeity meme...
Dec. 21st, 2008 07:37 amWe are snowed in, and even church is cancelled today - so I'm going to spend some time playing around with a meme. Gacked from
everloyal
1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times: I'm one of those people who will re-read a good book until the cover falls off, and I seem to do the same with movies, meaning I have more than I can shake a stick at. A handful: High Society, Princess Bride, Saving Grace (the Tom Conti one), LOTR, While You Were Sleeping, Singin' in the Rain, Cats, Ladyhawke, Pirates of Penzance, Texas Across the River (lol)....
2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in a theatre: LOTR (all three)...I still can't believe how much ticket money I must have spent on this addiction. I saw FotR a whopping 26 times, though the last handful were to accompany other people or at events - I think I hit "full" at about 19. Yow. I remember going to see the original Star Wars when I was a kid 4 times, which was all my brother and I could afford.
3. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie: So many out there! Um, do they have to be alive? The top of my list are Jimmy Stewart and Leslie Howard. There aren't many I'd buy a copy of a movie sight-unseen for, but I would for these two. Maybe Gene Kelly too.
4. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie: Tom Cruise. :-P
5. Name a movie that you can quote from: Egads, where does a person start? Anything I've seen again and again, plus some I've only seen a little. I could probably pull off the entire script for Princess Bride and Pirates of Penzance.
6. Name a movie musical that you know all the lyrics to all the songs: See above! I went through a "Pirates" phase in high school, so it's permanently embedded in my consciousness.
7. Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with: Anything musical - Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Cats, High School Musical, on and on... How does one *not* sing along, at least when alone?
8. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see: Saving Grace! Obscure, wonderful show even if you aren't Catholic, which I'm not. There are several movies by this title - the one I'm referring to is hard to find, sadly - it has Tom Conti as a Pope who goes on an adventure, and in spite of the weird ad-copy on the box billing it as a comedy, it isn't, it's a beautiful show, very touching, and all filmed in Italy as well. Go find it!
9. Name a movie that you own: How about 'Start the Revolution Without Me'? Hee! I love Gene Wilder. This show is bizarre but fun.
10. Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops: I remember being impressed that John Denver could act as well as sing when 'O God' came out. Haven't seen it for years and years though, so I have no idea if that impression was correct!
11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in?: Many, many times as a kid - it was the cheapest way a family with small kids could go. I especially remember lots of James Bond, because my dad was a Bond fan, that and wandering off to play on the swings if it was a boring 'grownup' show.
12. Ever made out in a movie?: Nope! Aside from privacy issues, I would probably be pointing out that we just paid good money to *see a film*, thank you very much. Haha!
13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't gotten around to it: Empire of the Sun. Really, I'll see it someday! That and 'Gone with the Wind'.
14. Ever walked out of a movie?: Not in a theater, but I tried to watch 'Eragon' on one of those little airplane movie things once and in spite of needing to kill several hours in the air I ended up fast-forwarding through most of it. Kept hoping it would get better *somewhere* along the line but it never did! - I finally gave up on it and watched 'Music and Lyrics' instead which was fun fluff.
15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theatre: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - oh, goodness did I cry! That and various points of the LOTR trilogy come to mind, at least initially.
16. Popcorn?: Are you kidding? At those prices? I'll just bring a granola bar in my pocket if it's a long show.
17. How often do you go to the movies?: Not often at all - I've gone more of late because my kids want to see shows on the big screen. I hate spending that much for something that comes with 20 minutes of commercials at the beginning, etc. Maybe three times a year?
18. What's the last movie you saw in the theater?: Prince Caspian, I think.
19. What is your favorite/preferred genre of movies?: I tend towards things that are more uplifting, rather than dark. I suppose a good musical (especially with good dancing) beats out everything else.
20. What was the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?: Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang! Either that or Sound of Music, they're both vaguely in that 'very little kid' part of my memories.
21. What movie(s) has/have changed your life?: I suppose the Lord of the Rings gets that distinction, as it opened my life to the world online, made me travel to other states where I met up with complete strangers to go to crazy events, etc. What a trip that was! Still, for all it's nonsensical aspects, I wouldn't have missed that experience as I met some wonderful people and had my love of writing renewed.
That was rather fun!
