I'm feeling rather overwhelmed with all the writing I wish I had time to pursue, fragmentary multi-chapter stories rattling around, concepts for history essays, ideas for poems or adaptations. My laundry is piling up. 0_o

On the other hand, I've jumped off the bridge to swim in the waters of ficathons for the first time (a First Doctor story for [livejournal.com profile] classicdw_fic) and found it dangerously addictive. Think I better just stick with wading in the shallows for now, I see how easily that sort of thing could eat up entire weeks (or months!). Part of the problem is brevity, or lack thereof - I'm getting better at short stories, but one I just finished (Unnecessary Vector with the Second Doctor) started as a drabble and ended up 5 chapters long. Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

And then, just to contradict my very own pulling on the reins and to prove the muse takes the bit in her mouth whenever she's determined to, I'm already planning on joining in on the new [livejournal.com profile] tardis_gen ficathon because I vehemently agree the world needs more gen for the good Doctor and want to do my part. Very encouraging to see the names of several fine writers already in their membership.

On the more hopeful side, I'm keeping up so far with a blog our church is doing together - we're reading the Bible three chapters a day to get through it in one year. Really helps having others involved and the pastor's sense of humor is a good thing.

Boy am I glad I don't have to do this with a quill and ink-bottle! Can you imagine all these LJ entries from everyone having to be hand-inscribed?

I can imagine how much a pastor with a sense of humor makes getting through a Bible study so much easier.

You know, I've never met a pastor yet that didn't have a pretty good sense of humor. I think they need it to deal with all the crazy people who come to them, like us, lol! It's fun having the folks from church online in a sort of forum too, sort of a real-world-virtual-world crossover.

How's your church going, btw?

Ours is dying a slow death. There's talk of mergers. There must be 8 Methodist churches in this relatively small town. Our building is beautiful, but not practical in today's world, and a small congregation cannot keep up with the maintenance needs.

We had a meeting with our bishop on Sunday. Very informal. The best thing that came out of it was the idea of having a community "newsletter" or something to let all churches in the area know about goings on at other churches - mainly ministering events like food pantry give-aways and such. The idea being to get more people involved in ministering to the community. We are all so "us and them" that we don't know what other branches are doing.

I am feeling less a part of the Methodist Church these days. Some of its policies clash with my personal beliefs, and if my church merges and I find myself out of a job, I may split my time between Methodism and another denomination.

I am so sorry to hear this, it must be so very hard for you to see something you've loved fading away bit by bit - I'm not terribly familiar with Methodism beyond knowing a little about its founder, I hope you will find a place that you can truly know is your 'home'.

I know how you feel with the writing. I went on Teaspoon to post a few old stories (my Hidden Corners series and Ashes) that people had asked for, and maybe one or two new ones. I now have 40 stories on there, which doesn't include any This Time Round madness. And I still haven't written the fics I intended to at the start. I've made a New Year's Resolution to be a little less insane. Mind you, most of it was down to Season 7. *Glares at Brigadier and Liz. And Benton* And every time I discover a new website/lj com... So: have to watch myself.

But, you know, don't sit on the urge to write too hard. I love your stories, especially with One and Two. I love Sixties Who dearly. Aw.

(And, yes, pastors generally do have a sense of humour, but as Adrian Plass says, there are vicarish allsorts...)

*Despite self, still heads off to check out tardis_gen*
