Well, it's a rare thing for me but it looks like we're meeting some others on Friday to join in with Portland's non-partisan 'tea party' protest. Seriously. This round of meetings will be 2/27 simultaneous at noon EST (that makes it quite early for us).

Just thought I'd post in case anyone else is interested in joining a group in their own area - the grassroots on this is gathering steam.
Some are listed here: http://www.nationwidechicagoteaparty.com/

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist posting. ;-)

As noted, this is intended to be non-partisan, there are people from all parties involved here. This is just a way for those who don't agree that congress, Pelosi, etc. are carrying things through quite as they ought to, considering points like the rushed unread trillion+ bill that will be affecting us all, bailouts, etc. It's okay for folks who think 'differently' to gather and make their voices heard as well - we're *all* going to be footing the bill.

What made me think it was partisan was the fact that the American Spectator is helping sponsor it....am not familiar with the other two groups but I know that the AS i very much to the right. You're right, you did say it was non-partisan...but seeing the AS on there drove that right from my mind ;) That plus the reference to "out of control spending" right after the Stimulus package was passed. ;o

ETA: Just looked up the other two groups and see that they are conservative as well...so I'm afraid I don't buy their saying that this is non-partisan.

Heh. You *are* aware there are conservative Democrats, aren't you? ;-) I know several.

And actually, I personally do think it is out of control, for various reasons. I would be going no matter who felt like organizing it.

Actually I don't even consider myself a Democrat...more of an independent moderate with still some conservative in me ;) (remember, I was a Republican for years). Believe me, if it were any other time but this when the economy wasn't tanking so bad (more than I ever remember in my lifetime) I wouldn't be happy with such a large spending bill myself...and I'm still not sure everything in there is needed (but I'm not about to read the 1100 pages of the bill ;o )

But desperate times call for desperate measures..and I *do* think a good portion of this bill is crucial to helping people get jobs (myself included)...I'm in the job market so I know how tough it is (not to mention changing careers and my age ;( I just do not think the trickle-down theory works at all. Obama is concerned about all of us, not just the wealthy...he has made this clear over and over again, and so I trust him to do what is best. *Something* needed to be done...and fast.

The thing I that feel was too rushed through wasn't this bill but that bailout back in the fall which didn't help at all...I couldn't believe the way they forced that through so quickly...way too quickly.
