Changing the flavor of Geek Decor
Feb. 24th, 2009 08:12 amWell, I guess the Geek Season truly has shifted - I not only have my Third Doctor plushie, I've actually stopped at a shop with my daughters so we could look for a properly ruffled vintage shirt for my son, who has happily agreed that if his sisters can find the proper pieces, he would wear a Three-like bit of fashion. We just bought even *more* classic episodes.
And I'm seriously thinking I'll sell my LOTR toybiz collection. They haven't been out for a long time. Anyone want a boxful, cheap? Let me know. I still think they're pretty cool and love the detailing in them but...well, I've somewhat moved on. Gotten past the "keep ANYTHING Rings oriented" phase some time ago and now getting pickier about what I'll keep from the pile.
I would love to find someone new to Rings, someone who has just discovered it and has that fire and passion for that world, just to bequeath some of the geekier things to an appreciative person who didn't get to have a crack at them when they were still in the stores.
Now? Well, unconfirmed reports of someone in Portland having a police box on their front porch made us all grin like loons and wish we had one too.
Such are the Seasons of Geek!

I am still retaining my keenness in all things LotR, because I had that fandom since before I even was old enough to know what a fan truly was, and I don't see it going away ever. ;-) However, I have strayed into other forms of geekdom which sometimes entertain me in the place of LotR -- in the realm of Japanese anime. I watch tons of the stuff, read certain manga, and yes, I have a plush figure, and would buy another in a shot if that particular character came across my radar screen. I have looked at action figures, but they are very pricey and not as well detailed as the LotR ones.
Long live geeks, no matter what the geek-dom!

Date: 2009-02-24 05:56 pm (UTC)An, LoTR. I've been rereading it since I was 11. No danger of crossovers here, though. I love it to bits, but I'm not writing Tolkien Elves for anyone!!

Date: 2009-02-24 06:06 pm (UTC)1 sonic screwdriver
1 Nine
2 Tens
2 Jacks
1 Space pig
4 Daleks
1 Raxacoricophalapatorian
And that's just on one shelf. On the other I have:
1 Ent
2 Pippins
1 Merry
1 Aragorn
1 Bumblebee (I'm eclectic)
1 Qui-Gon Jinn
1 Yoda
1 Jar Jar Binks (My secret shame)
1 Obi-Wan Kanobi
I got rid of all my pokemon stuff a while ago, and like you, I've moved on from a lot of the LoTR things. But at least they're great conversation starters!
