Portland Tea Party
Feb. 27th, 2009 03:53 pmJust a happy note that the Portland version of the anti-stimulus-package protests went very well this morning! I'm ready to do it again.
My eldest says she's a real teenager now because she's been in a protest.
Weather was beautiful, turnout was pretty good considering this is Ye Olde Liberal Portland and it was only quickly organized *and* at 9:00 am on a workday - lots of people taking pictures, two radio type personalities to talk and one tv camera, so that's something.
Lots of pics of all the protests in all sorts of cities coming up online today - here's a nice gallery of ours in particular:

They *loved* the King George III sign we'd scribbled up late last night and kept asking for it to be in the pictures, which was fun. Lots of tea dumped in the river (minus the bags & tags of course - no littering)... probably some seriously buzzed fish down there today. We weren't very good at all the shouting part, everyone was too polite to shout, lol...
Most interesting thing I find about this is out of that entire crowd we only had a couple people who had ever marched for *anything* in their lives. This is all new folks, real grassroots stuff. Really nice folks.
