Scary Aerobics Women

My daughters and I not only signed up for bellydance (good fun) but also a class dubbed 'dance-n-fit' where they claimed all levels of fitness were welcome and we'd just be moving around to music. Sounded about right for us in the 'less than fit' stage we're in. We got as far as the door. False advertising! The room was filled with Grim Spandex Women - you know the kind... not a smile or welcoming face in the lot, the music was pounding away and the teacher was a tiny, muscular asian lady shouting into a microphone "More! More! More! Turn! Turn! Now Left! Left!" etc. She didn't look too friendly either.

We debated a moment - after all, we DID pay for this thing - then went back to our car. I'd rather have dental work than go into a pack of spandex hyenas, sorry, even if we do need the exercise. We went to a park instead and had a very nice, long hike to make up for chickening out. Kudos to you who can brave such trials.

I'd try a gym instead...do you have Anytime Fitness near you? Here's there link to do a search...they are so welcoming and no spandex in site (well maybe a few wearing spandex pants) but no tight leotards. (Actually I think my workout pants have spandex but they are really loose...no advertising here ;) You can definitely go at your own pace. I love Anytime Fitness and wish they had a pool, but other than that they are perfect for us..about five minutes away and good rates!

Oh darn, I just checked and the closest one to you is in Tigard...that isn't very close is it? For me, I found that the fact that its only 5 minutes away from us makes a huge difference. Here's the info in case you want to check it out, but there are lots of good gyms out there that may be nearer to you...ran into someone we used to know in church on Sunday from when we attended there before...she has lost 89 pounds and goes to 24-Hour Fitness..they have a pool!

I've always been afraid we'd pony up the money and then end up not using it - partly for the same reason, I'm easily intimidated by people who look like PE teachers. I looked into the nearest gym once, but all of the classes for beginning type folks ended up being exactly when I was either picking up or dropping off my kids. :-/ Still, worth another look - thanks for the encouragement.

well there are definitely some fit looking people there but they never patronize us because we aren't where they are...they are always encouraging :)
