Prim...I just want to make my opinion on this whole issue very clear. It wasn't the way they *looked* that bothered me...it was the way they *acted*...I saw a clip and heard the audio of the loud shouting down and yelling first hand...this kind of behavior defeats any chance of a discussion, no matter what side you are on...I hope you'd agree with me there.

If others want to call them "scary" and talk about the way they look...well, that's them. I just wanted to make clear that my particular issue was with their behavior. If opponents of the health care bill want to come to a town hall meeting and express their opinion in a civil, polite manner, then I welcome them to do so..and I'm sure others would as well. But what I saw and heard was in no way civil nor polite. They were not standing peacefully like the one guy in the suit pictured standing at the mic. They were chanting and yelling and raising their fists. So what is depicted here in these pics is not what I saw on tv. ;o

Btw, I notice there is no place to comment...I wish there were so I could post what I've written here.

Bob and I are going to a town hall meeting in Everett on Wednesday...I'll post how it goes ;) It is clear that the audience varies widely between meetings...I'm sure some are more peaceful than others. I hope ours is on the peaceful side!

Whoops - sorry, I wasn't thinking of you guys up north there at all, but rather the inflated rhetoric of commentators and (sadly) some folks in positions of power...not anything on LJ. Sorry if you thought it was a poke at you, we just really did personally find it very amusing and I thought some of the others on my flist might as well.

The ones here have been pretty peaceful so far - of course we haven't dealt with misbehaving union guys yet either, but here's hoping they stay that way!

No problem with regards to what you wrote above. :):) Believe me, I am so thankful we are able to remain friendly throughout the discussion...I find it kind of fun actually :) I am very sad about the friend on my FB (11 yr friend here) who couldn't even listen to anything I had to say without feeling threatened ;( She absolutely could not handle anyone with a different opinion than her own. Now *that's* scary!
