Just finished reading the Letters of Cicero (excerpts, that is - not the whole bazillion of them) and then Octavius went and totally betrayed him and let Antony kill him! Aaaaaaighh! Noooo! Noooo!

> - <

It's worse because it isn't even a fictional hero dying...! even if it *was* a loooong time ago. That's the thing about history, sometimes the plot just suddenly veers right off a cliff.

*wants to bludgeon Octavius, the @!&#*%! traitorous little power-grabber*

Yep, if you liked his letters, you'd like his writing "On Government" so you can read his famous Philippics (which are quite caustic/humorous). The fact is that he sealed his fate by voicing opposition to Antony, which really was a courageous thing. I don't think Octavian really wanted Cicero dead, as he was something of a "teacher" to him, but the triumvirate was more important to him politically than Cicero's life was.

I'm left wondering if there's any record of what happened to his son - seeing as Plutarch said the murderers caught up with not only Cicero but his brother and nephew as well, it didn't sound promising. And was Atticus among those killed in Rome as well? *pulls hair*

I'm also left with a profound respect for Brutus, amazing man.

*goes off to hunt up the Phillipics*
