Just got the mail and found my copy of Globus' Epicon album arrived - much rejoicing and bouncing around ensued in our household - the music is simply stunning, music trends for this next decade bode well if this is any indication. Nice that we were able to find a copy of the older release, the one with the text on the cover as it includes faves such as Crusaders of the Light which was strangely missing on the later one.

I love seeing more use of classical instruments in 'pop' music of late - really, after how-many-decades of piano/electric guitar/drums the occasional violin, cello, oboe, etc. sound really, really fab and add so much lost richness and depth. Ahhh.

It seems that the 60s were the decade of using the organ in pop music, or young bands of today that I hear on college radio that have 60s' roots. There was some lush strings in pop music in the late 60s and then 70s after the Beatles showed it was "okay". But otherwise, a bit boring, yeah. Mind you, I love a lot of pop music of any decade, though. :)

I have no clue if you like rocked up trad Irish, but you might look for Horslips. Very famous in Ireland in the 70s, tried to make a splash over here, but didn't go far. Too bad. I did see one of their tours with one of my best friends from uni. :)

I love their music still. The keyboardist also played a flute, and they had a mean fiddle player, along with the usual drums, lead, and bass (the later played by an excellent lead singer). In recent years the group has gotten back together, and got their rights back to their own albums and re-mastered them. I keep meaning to order them.

Maybe they should've chosen a more poetic name than "Horslips" - lol... Anyone who has ever fed a horse bits of carrot knows how amusing those are. I'll poke around and see if I can find a sample, sounds promising. :-)
