Stepped out on my deck this morning to breathe in the sunshine and birdsong and (as always) ended up spotting (gasp) weeds in my iris beds. The cheek! Had to do one of my very favorite things (okay, prod me and bribe me here) and promptly pad out into the luscious greenery barefoot, wade into a pool of iris, forget-me-not and bluebells to pull up the weedy grasses that had mistakenly thought themselves safe enough to dare raise their heads above the level of the rest. Discovered plenty of their lower brethren and was soon happily down among the fragrant, soft greenery with wads of velvety weedery in my hands and the scent of the morning earth around me.

There was a whirring sound and a hummingbird came down and examined me fairly closely - probably because I was wearing sparkly silver and bright purple because I'm heading out to a bellydance show now - not to dance, heavens no, but to go wild among all the vendors. Well, mildly wild. Only as teensily wild as my wallet allows, which is to say mostly coveting and exclaiming over things. Hoping to come home with at least one new and shiny item of fluffiness. :-)

And last night I got to see [livejournal.com profile] everloyal singing solo with her college jazz choir backing her up and she was amazing and I am still in a cloud of parental-proudness, and we have lemon poppyseed cake for breakfast. What a lovely day! Hope it is as well for the rest of you.

Just being out among the plants on a nice day is like living in a poem sometimes. :-)

Once when I was outside near the porch, wearing a surprisingly pink (rose) caftan on a hot day (surprising because I generally avoid pink so I'm not a walking female stereotype), a hummer whirred overhead to watch me with interest. I was delighted. I love the sound of that whirring.

This morning, I apparently unnerved some crows when I went out to get the newspapers, because they made a persistent, strange, gargling call -- they sounded worried that I was on their territory. How dare I! :-)

I love birds, each kind is so different - the little parking-lot birds that hop along, the intelligent ones like the crows and jays, the fat robins that love my earthworms, the titmice making the bushes come alive - but hummers are really in a class unto themselves.

I had another entertaining bird experience today. Watering some potted plants on the deck, I paused to remove dead bits and casually toss them over the side. There was a rustling from the roof and a crow landed on the railing behind me. I turned and watched it -- it was a bit ruffled, but not freaked-out, by my proximity. So I talked to it a little. Then I turned the water back on, and it flew away, but definitely looked downward as it passed by, in a "Was that food?" gesture re: what I'd tossed "overboard." Heh.

Also, as others have said (and I've said before), I love the imagery in your writing.

All of which is the reason, in a nutshell, why you are about eleventy zillion times better a Three writer than I am. *gurgles happily and re-reads*

Eee, I love it when hummingbirds going zooming by quite closely! It's amazing how something so tiny can be SO LOUD.

Hope you had fun at the bellydance show!

We did, we did! I spent too much, but got some very beautiful things to help complete the outfits I have. I think I could easily be a silk veil addict too, they're sooo soft and lovely.

Isn't that the truth? She's a music major and even in an apartment over in Portland, which took some getting used to. We miss having her here, but it's so nice to see her so happy. :-) I was wondering how things are going for you up there, nice to hear from you!
