My daughter is encouraging me to start up a facebook account, but I find I already have my plate full just vaguely managing to keep up with LJ... Have any of you ventured into Facebook? What makes it any different from here?

Also much happiness here as we've finally a new pastor and he and his family are moving here this week - they'll be staying with *us* for the next week or so until a rental house is available for them, which gives us a whopping 10 people plus randomly cycling friends and visitors. Somehow I foresee a lot of time spent in the kitchen!

Yikes...getting down into the 30s at night... time to finish patching the holes in my greenhouse so I can bed down my plant children for the winter. Duct-tape is my friend.

FaceBook is a huge waste of time...and I like it ;-{P
Plus I can keep music there too.
boriel is Comfort Doll, and Margie/ Lin is there sometimes, I am there as my full name thomas scott tharp and about a few million others
even a virtual garden that helps save the rain forest, so thats my impression of it...it is a huge waste of time, a virtual Black Hole...no escape......aieeeeeeeeeeeeee

Egads, not *another* black hole... considering how rare those things are supposed to be, they sure show up a lot. ;-)

I'll definitely do some looking around the landscape there.

Facebook, well, I have one. It is different from here in that it is quite possible to use up several hours accomplishing absolutely nothing doing games and memes and passing people virtual whatsits without the benefit of blog-ability (unless it is hidden somewhere I haven't found). But if you want to shout at a friend to see if they are alive and well it's handy and sometimes mindless games and quizzes are just what the doctor ordered. It also offers a little window into my nephew's worlds because really, if Aunt Gina asks you to friend her you really can't say no, now can you? LOL

I have it primarily to make sure that old friends looking for me by name can find me, then I point them over here where people speak in more or less complete thoughts. ;)

Have fun with your guests! It's an exciting time and a big transition for the church and I hope it is going really well.

How is that different? LOL! I'm forever getting pulled off into memes and icon collections and lolcats and.... Sounds like a good tool to add to the toolbox, and good for keeping up with the kids too. I've already had some of my kid's friends connecting with me on Runescape ("no way! your mom plays Runescape with you?") so yeah... I think so.

Should be a crazy time with everyone, I think we're ready - dusting done, beds set up, fridge is full - bring it on!

Yep, I'm there, quite intermittently at the moment, but it's turning into a great way to get back in touch with loads of folks we knew when we lived overseas.

It's somewhat similar to here in that you can leave comments and such, and it has a feature that allows you to see what your friends are doing and saying, like a friend's list. It's also it's similar to a message board in that you can PM people. There is also a chat feature, so if you happen to be online at the same time, you can chat with someone. That's the bare bones. The best thing about it is that it's ultra easy to find people you know, especially if they know some of the same people you do. As for how much of a time waster is it, we'll see. ;-)

Yay for a new pastor, what a relief that much be!! Our church is in the process of trying to find an assistant pastor, as our pastor could use some help -- the congregation is growing enough that he can't spend time with everyone like he wants to. A good position to be in! Have fun being hostess, may it be a great time of bonding and welcoming the new shepherd and his family.

Well, connecting is a good thing - as is variety and old dogs learning new tricks to keep up with the young-uns. Hm!

And yes, what a relief it is! We've been plugging along fairly well and had a lot of variety in our speakers over this past year but it will be very, very nice to have it 'done'. They're coming over from PA via roadtrip, nice folks, I think they'll fit in here in the NW just fine - and as a bonus they're even geeky.

Good luck finding your associate - always wonderful news that your church is growing rather than shrinking.

I like Facebook. Then again, I like all those 'friend-connecting' websites where you gloat about yourself in the About Me section :p and show off my insufferable love for 60's music and sci-fi.

My advice is if you're not ready for the commitment of answering everyone's little comments and reviewing the account daily then it's not the time. :p

Well, now you've certainly piqued my curiosity to see yours! Nice to have you here, btw, and I *adore* your icon, they're so huggable.
