Well, we got through Bridal Shower Number One, which was the standard gathering of relatives kind, good game of dressing people with toilet-paper to create wedding gowns for entertainment and my mom brought Costco food platter things. We then hit re-set on the house and geared up for Bridal Shower Number Two - a tea with dancers and friends that needs more work.

Then the weather decided it was going to ice and snow and we had to reschedule it 2 weeks down the pipe. Now I've got to figure how to keep my house "nice" for 2 weeks with a table full of tiered tea trays and crystal. Pbbbbbt.

In the meantime my daughter is staying with me working on beading her bridal skirt and making a lace-up turkish vest to match her white-and-silver-jacquard dance belt. Today that means learning how to set grommets for the laces so we're practicing on scrap fabric first.

Less than a month to go!

My coral and purple costume worked! The hair-fall I braided did too and stayed in place. I really do need lighter colored dance shoes, though - looking for something else that works now. I was kind of freaked out about doing this one because it was a difficult piece but yay, I survived and I kind of like how this pic came out. It helped that I was at the tail end of the show and there wasn't a lot of audience left. Now I get to do it again at a Lavender Festival later this month, yoiks.

Just back from a nice performance with the Potpourri dance troupe. I intended to take a couple pictures but forgot, so here's me getting ready to head out instead - unfortunately doesn't show the coral/purple skirt but I'm really liking the tropical colors at the moment. Going to use the full outfit at a show in April so maybe I can get a couple "real" pictures then.

Carpet! What a nice morning, hot tea in a cup and the rhythmic banging and shuffling of workmen downstairs finishing up with the new carpet there. I'm delighted to have that done, though it does mean lots of crawling around on the floor for me later as I have to reattach all the baseboards once they're finished and then get all the furniture back in place. It really makes me realize how bad the old carpet was, that's for sure! Aaaaaah.

Church! My goodbye party at my "old" church went well (so weird to think of it as the "old" church now), only half as many people as said they would come actually showed up so we had WAY too much food but otherwise a good time had by all. Lots of dancing and dress-up and eating too much. Thankfully you can freeze both hummus and curry perfectly well, no need to make dinners for a while. I'm really enjoying being able to use my Sundays to visit other churches, it's been a lot of fun and there's so many great people out there in the world.

Costumes! I finished working on a set of hair falls to go with my purple and coral costume and just in time as my first performance for this piece is tomorrow. I'm in with a troupe that dances at rest-homes, it'll be a good dry-run for an actual dance show coming up in April that I'm signed up for. I got a gorgeous skirt to go with it that has yellow chiffon panels over a tropical orange underlayer so the result is coral but it flares out if I spin. Goes well with the coral-and-purple hydrangea hip-scarf. Yay. Just have to go find coral nail-polish for my toes this afternoon.

Crocuses! Looking forward to spring already, they have arrived along with the snowdrops, so pretty.

I am so makeup challenged, I swear - I kind of skipped the "girls get together and put makeup on each other" thing that is apparently out there, my friends were more about seeing if we could sing the entirety of Pirates of Penzance or fangirling over Alexander Dumas and Charles Dickens. One result is it took me until I was in my 50s to try putting on false eyelashes (easy but weird to wear because you can see them) and fake nails.

My nails are so darn brittle and I noticed how much their short, uneven little selves were showing up in my dance pics because so much of it is hand gesture related. I decided to bite the bullet and buy some fake nails (press on Kiss). I didn't even know they could be trimmed and filed like real nails, or how to stick them on but I can now say I now officially have long-pink-glitter fingernails. Feels weird to type with them. This is my experimental set to see how well they stay on and how long they last, if it works I can get coordinating nails for costumes when I have performances.

Live and learn!

We have a dance group of older women who go by the name of Potpourri because it makes something lovely out of old, withered flowers. ;-) I got to dance with them at a rest home this week to try out my new song - thank goodness I did get that costume together at last (except the shoes, my silver shoes literally disintegrated and I spent an entire day of last-minute ripping around town trying to find suitable dance shoes in my size - arrrgh...otherwise...).

SO - since I did have a couple people ask for pics whenever I managed to wrangle this thing into order, here's a little something. I managed to do some makeup (yes, you may laugh at me - but I am NOT a makeup person normally so this is a learning curve)-

Thankfully remembered to remove my glasses before performing. And someone did snap a picture of the entire outfit -

I was a penguin for our Trunk-or-Treat event last night, right down to faux flippers over my shoes. Cozy to wear out in the parking lot, will have to use that one again someday. Wish my dance costuming could just come out of a bag all ready to go like that one did.

I've been hunting diligently for my 40s-themed dance bits for my performance coming up just before Thanksgiving - I'm using a jazzy version of Peggy Lee's "Winter Weather".
Found an ivory-colored rabbit fur 'headband' hat from a vintage shop for my hair, a big pearl necklace among the cheap "bling" jewelry on clearance, a burgundy velvet choker at a teen shop and stretchy faux pearl bracelets. Gave up on finding fingerless burgundy satin gloves and had to order those online, hope they come soon. Putting it with a burgundy crop top layered with a cream lace over-piece, ivory fluffy full skirt and burgundy hip wrap.

Had to buy lipstick and lip liner too - 40s makeup is not my usual style, heh. This is getting expensive, but I'm enjoying it too! Hee! Now if I can just get the dancing part to come out right. If I just flail around, at least I'll look good doing it.

Can't believe October is already coming to a close, I'm scrambling to get my costume and decor ready for this year's Trunk or Treat where we decorate our cars and hand out candy from the trunks in the church parking lot.  Last year we got a downpour that drove everyone inside, I'm hoping it will be drier this time around.  We usually get about 180 kids.

I'm using my silver dance wings and doing up an angel costume, complete with white wig and fluffy halo on a headband.  Sparkly blanket in the back of the car with twinkle lights and such should work, figure that way if it rains on us again its something relatively easy to transfer to a table inside and still have a theme. I did this once before a while back, the preschoolers eyes about pop out of their head when I slowly open the wings.  :-D

Found some googly eyed glasses in the freebie bin at a garage sale.

I love my children.
